Does anyone have experience with a hands free mobile phone in the MDX? I have a base MDX, and I had a hands free car kit installed for my Motorola StarTac phone. The technician that installed the car kit told me that the car is too wide to install the microphone in the center. As a result, it is almost impossible to hear the passenger speak. Also, the acoustics when you're driving on the highway and talking on the phone are horrible. Even the driver's voice is choppy. I'm debating whether to remove the speakerphone setup altogether. Any advice? Thanks.
I have a StarTac Hands free kit that I have in my TransAm that I was seriously considering moving to my MDX. I'm selling the TransAm.

I believe it is called the Zip 2000. It is self installed unit that cost me about $100.

It plugs into the cigarette lighter, has a speaker and you run the microphone up to the Driver's visor overhead.

Awesome sound, quality...it is DRIVER used only...no passenger. Everyone I talked to with it thought I was holding my cell phone in my hand talking regularly.

Here is the problem. I am very anal when it comes to wires all over my car/SUV that are in plain view. In the TransAm, I was able to hide everything !! Unbeliveable, but true.

I have to see what it looks like & how hard it is.
I would definitely recommend this type of hands free kit.
Inexpensive enough & easy to install.

I'll keep you informed.
:D

I just tried to move the Hands free kit I have for my StarTac cell phone and it doesn't fit well without having wires all over the place.

I'm disappointed.
I will probably include the kit when I sell the TransAm.
If not, take it out and sell it.

Maybe I'll get the "Navigator" hands free adapter for the StarTac for my MDX. It costs about $50. It is a cradle like device that plugs into your cigarette lighter and you just sit the StarTac in it. That's it. Unfortunately, I was told it does not sound good when you have the windows down or the sunroof open. The microphone is located inside it so it has to pick up your voice from the cigarette lighter location.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............

As always, I'll keep you all informed.

Thanks . . . FYI, the technician worked on the car today. . . It seems that pointing the microphone in a slightly different direction (i.e., facing toward the driver) works better for everyone in the car.

Sometime in the next week or so, I am going to install a hardwired analog car phone (not a portable cell phone). I am going to do this because of the much greater range (greater wattage and permanent antenna) and because I don't need a portable cell phone. The local cell phone company uses the Motorola 3900. They have never installed one in an MDX. Any one with experience doing this?
I will share the result on this forum.
