I just got my 08 Tech/Ent and have about 375 miles on it.
The MID seems to be very informative, but that chime that accompanies many of the alerts is a bit annoying...
Especially the one when the passenger seat belt is disconnected.
In previous vehicles I was able to remove the chime - problem solved. But you have to find it first.
Does anyone know where the chime relay is on an 07/08 MDX?
Thanks! |

It's not as simple as disconnecting a relay or switch. In your car, the front and side airbag system is completely integrated. The SRS uses various sensors to determine how it will respond in case of a collision. The position, weight, and seat belt status for the front seat passenger are all continuously evaluated by the SRS. One of the outputs the SRS generates is the warnings (visual and audible) you have described. Those warnings do not come directly from a relay or switch, but rather from the SRS computer.
If you override the seatbelt mechanism that supplies passenger seatbelt usage condition to the SRS, you stand the risk of preempting an appropriate SRS response by the SRS in case of an accident. For example, the airbag will deploy with different force levels, depending on whether the seatbelt is in use at the time of the collision. An unintended consequence of overriding the seatbelt condition sensor might even be the difference between life and death, literally.
Likewise, the same applies to the level of integration for a seemingly simple item such as the warning chime. The SRS system outputs a 'flag' to the vehicle's warning system, which, in turn, generates the visual and audible cues. And the audible speaker source is used by the vehicle to give you other warnings, as well, as to the condition of lights, ignition key, engine warnings, fuel quantity status and so on.
As I said, it's not that simple.
Just out of curiosity (I'm really not making any kind of judgment here), is there something wrong with the passenger seatbelt warning system, or does your passenger just not like wearing a seatbelt? |

| Do you have any objects on the passenger seat? Even a briefcase. The dealer told me to keep the seat clear and this cleared up the problem. |
