finally got her on the highway for a drive up to North Florida to meet the cruise ship.
all was great, MPG was ok, most I ever got was 20.00 on the highway.. got to go about 85 the whole way...
I guess at 60 is when you could possibly get higher MPG... I thought I would get more than 20 on the highway..
anyways, drove great the whole time!! The MDX laughed at the suitcases in the back I could've taken 2 more people with their luggage lmao !!! |

Yup, the X is an excellent road-tripper, no doubt about it. While the most I tend to do in one shot is the 55 miles back and forth from my countryhouse on the weekends, it's loaded to the gills pretty much each every time with crap the baby's outgrown that we're bringing up to store in the house and new baby crap that we're bringing back for him to use in the city (to say nothing of our laundry and groceries -- food's a lot cheaper in CT than it is in Manhattan). So far we've yet to be forced to leave something behind due to lack of space.
The one time I did have the occasion to tally some serious miles (brought the family to Canada -- approx. 400mi each way), I had no problem packing a week's worth of luggage for two adults and a ten month old -- who took the lion's share of the cargo hold with his bag of babyfood, exer-saucer and Bugaboo Chameleon stroller -- and we still had room to spare. Sort of. Just barely. Okay, I think I might've been able to slip a business card in back there, but at least nothing spilled over into the passenger compartment. I had a nice empty seat and footwell next to me, and my wife had plenty of room to stretch out in back with the baby. This definitely woudn't have been possible in an RX, X5 or M-Class.

Did my first BJ's run in the X tonight...2 cases water, 2 cases Vitamin Water, 1 box diapers, and some other stuff, including a stroller and some purchases from another stop.
The cargo area looked about 1/2 full.
:D

FYI - 55 miles outside of Manhattan does not qualify as the "country".

Somehow "suburbshouse" doesn't have quite the same ring to it. ;)
Besides, I've got three acres, two ponds, one waterfall, and a private driveway -- trust me, that definitely qualifies as "country" when you spend five days out of the week staring at concrete.

Adam
PS - The X has been a godsend for BJ's runs. |

I think what I enjoyed the most was the comfort level, along with the smooooooothness and quietness on the highway...
not bad for a vehicle this size and weight...
btw, the family that we sat with to eat on the cruise each night... the guy was one of the head engineers from toyota, largely responsible for the designing of the new Tundra and coming up Sequoia... I had to rave to him a bit about the MDX.. we had interesting conversations... the funny thing was when I asked him why he picked toyota, he replied "because it is close to my house back home in Japan" :4:
thought that was interesting, lol. |
