I know you are semi -retired but I have one question to ask:
My 2007 sometimes seems to ping at light throttle but never at
full throttle, i always use premium, my 2005 seemed to do the same thing, is this a normal occurence or is my engine being slowly destroyed? Any other members notice this, I always use Exxon or
Sunoco gas. Appreciate any insight you can give. |

Pretty normal. I've heard iwhat you describe quite a bit in all the J30/32/35/37 V6s. The spark retard will only intervene when a signifigant pre-ignition is "heard" by the knock sensor.
Try switching to Chevron or running a bottle of Techron with your next couple fill ups at Exxon or Sunoco and see if there's a change. |

Thank you, I tried a tank of Shell gas and noticed no pinging at all,
appreciate you getting back to me with the info. |

| I use Chevron mostly (around the corner from my house) and I had some pinging early on. It had to be coming from Chevrons gas.......a bad batch I suppose? It happened while near a WOT and we all noticed it in the X....I was a bit embarrased as it being nearly a new vehicle at the time.....it has not happened since then however.... |

I, 2nd to Chevron gas. Same bad experience twice in a roll. Had to switch back to Shell or 76 which is 4 blocks away, but what the heck, I'll go where good gas is. :1:
P.S. Have yet to try Arco. :2: |

| I've had good experiences so far with BP. Only once was there a sulfur smell from the exhaust but 4 fill ups and no pinging. I also filled up with Lukoil this past weekend in NJ and it seems decent so far. |
