I have my 2008 MDX Tech for a month. Had minor problems such as pastic cover under glove box falling off during driving and DVD disc reading error (found out later the dealer put it a copy rather than the new disc). The ongoing problem is the Console compartment gets heating up by the transmission (dealer claims so, and no fix on this)
The passenger side of the compartment is the heat source, the driver side is cool. It warms up the compartment and melts my daughter's candies. Another problem in summer is that when the temperature setting is around 70, 71 degree, the rear right air openning produces warm air while the left openning produces cold air. I have to reduce to 69 degree to get cold air on both.
I would like to know if other have the sample problem.

| Same compartment heating problem in my 2007 MDX. But to my surprise they have yet to solve this issue in 2008 product line. |

While I haven't had any issues with respect to the rear seat HVAC, it's a known fact that the center console bin gets hot during normal driving conditions. To date there's no indication that any fix is in the works, or that it even could be fixed. IMO, this is a design flaw -- you can't tell me that there was no way for Acura engineers to avoid this phenomenon.
So far I only store CDs and DVDs in there, along with my iPod and Treo (the latter with a spare charger plugged into the auxillary power outlet) to no ill-effect. That said, I wouldn't attempt storing anything in the console that could melt, such as chocolate.

In the morning we throw some pop-tarts in there, and half way to to the office they are fresh and ready to eat.
Now, if it only got hot enough for an espresso cup, I'd be thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!!

I noticed the same problem with mine, maybe since only the passenger seat bottom is heated and not the back that this is
a "consolation feature" for passengers on cold winter days. |

| I had the same issue on my 2001 MDX and 2005 Honda Pilot. It got really bad on the Pilot. When I installed the ipod connection by myself, I opened the center console and the heat source is a rubber tubing containing coolant (I believe) for the rear AC unit. I do not think Honda will come out any fix any soon because this involves the redesign the whole rear AC unit. |
