| What would happen if the knock sensor is disconnected. Will it maintain the original timing even if it knocks or will it go into 'safe' mode and just retard timing no matter whether knock is detected or not ? |

| Why are you even considering that? |

I would hope that this is just a hypothetical question and not something that you are really considering. Actually doing the disengage would just be plain *(&&^%.

The check engine light turns on with a code for the knock sensor circuit. And since the PCM can no longer detect pre-ignition, it reduces timing as a "safe mode" measure. So not only will you fail a smog check because the engine light is on, but you have reduced power/mileage as well.
Short version...not a good idea. |

now there are some things that you can find in the service manual..... but for everything else there's SuperTech! :D
No I was not going to try it. I thought that would be the case but wanted to verify. That knock sensor is hard to reach anyway....
But here's a thought :22: - you could still disconnect the sensor and fake it (connect a resistor of a certain value across the connector). This is just for knock sensors that are sometime too sensitive and send a false alarm. :1: |
