OK - I have had the MDX for about three months and here is my shopping list for future MDX improvements. Mind you I am coming out of an LS430 so maybe I'm spoiled. In no particular order:
1 - Rain sensing wipers
2 - Ventilated Seats
3 - Mode button on steering wheel should turn ON the radio, Lexus figured it out so it should be easy.
4 - outside temp display somewhere permanent rather than scrolling thu the trip computer display.
5 - Wood steering wheel standard - I love mine!
6 - Instant fuel economy as part of the trip computer - jsut a gadget but fun.
7 - quicker boot on the nav display
Just thought I'd add my two cents in case the MDX product planner stumbles on this fourm.

| Agree with most of your suggestions. Standard power tailgate and adjustable 2nd row seats with power third row up-down are some other luxo features that will move the MDX upscale. A massaging seat would move it into LS territory.:) |

Good call drjay! I like some of those suggestions even better! I do miss my healights that went left and right! And a sport mode button that improved the trans shift points as well!!

Their is a reason the X is approx 20-25k less than a lexus LS430, see above "wish list" |

While I agree that some of the suggestions I've read would clearly move the X into an altogether different price category (or at the very least turn it into a completely different vehicle), adaptive headlights, rain-sensing wipers and ventilated seats seem within the realm of possibility. I mean heck, they're available on the much reviled Buick Enclave (well, not the cooled seats, but apparently they're coming).
Anyway, I'm sure that we'll be seeing some of these features popping up in the coming years. And from a mechanical standpoint, it's just a matter of time before Honda comes out with a 6-speed AT; and doubtless techm8n will get his wish when Honda's diesel makes its debut (300+ lbs/ft torque seems like a no-brainer, though it'll probably be down on horsepower).

Great improvements list!
My 2004 MDX has auto wipers. Did they discontinue that feature?
On my radio, if I push any of the mode buttons (ie FM, CD, etc) the radio will turn on to that mode. No need to first turn the radio unit on. Definitely agree that I would like to add that functionality to the steering wheel controls.
As for other improvements (some were added in later models), look at my sig, below, especially the last 4 items. |

Yup, no rain-sensing wipers on the new X. For the life of me, I can't understand why they got rid of that feature when it was already present on the first generation one. Now they're speed-sensitive -- the faster you go, the faster they wipe, or some such nonsense.

Perhaps it'll come as standard for the 09+ models among other goodies. Call it marketing tactics.... The only way to keep 'em interesting to consumers by adding & adding stuffs every year. |
