| 'good decision keeping the 19" Sparkle silver wheels! the painted bumpers look very nice! hey, what about a matching painted roof rack?:2: :4: |

Very sharp, Tom. If it weren't for the "bumper cars" approach to parking employed by most NYC parallel parkers, I'd consider doing the same with mine.

Looks good! All you need now is the Sport Running Boards and Body Side Molding.
Did you perform the install yourself or the body shop? |

| Will somebody forward these pics to Acura so that they'll realize how great the painted inserts are and maybe offer them as an option? |

...because they have to introduce "something new" each model year, this could be it........;) |

That looks great, much better than OEM IMHO................
Nice work! |

thanks for the comments guys
to the person who asked if i did the install myself .. yes .. not that hard at all .. just took off the front and rear bumpers and the rest is pretty self explanatory |

How much did you pay to have them painted? Does the color/paint job match the body's 100% as far as you could tell?
Thanks, |

Thanks,
having them painted cost me nothing .. my friend runs a paint place... but i will say this ... there are some slight imperfections that bother me . but thats because im a perfection freak
the material that the bumper pieces are made of is a real pain in the butt to paint .. they soak up paint differently then the bumpers themselves...
so there are some spots where you can tell its just a tad bit different in color.. though to most people they wouldnt even know .. but i do .. so im going to have him redo them
overalll though .. they look 100x better then the stock grey plastic :) |

| Very nice. If there is one thing wrong with the new gen X's it's these inserts. I guess my 06 an 04 has them, but they are at the bottom of the bumpers, and side of vehicle under the doors, where they do not look bad on my Black and Grey vehicles. |

Am I the only one who honestly doesn't mind the gray plastic trim? I think that it looks good on certain colors...Silver being one of them.
Don't get me wrong, the painted inserts are certainly nice, but I actually like the slight contrast. Probably wouldn't if the car was Black or Red. |

I don't mind the gray trims either. Looks pretty decent on black especially if you have the lower garnish to add to the color contrast. Also, I don't have to worry about scruffing them if they are not painted. |

No, you're not the only one. I actually prefer the contrast afforded by the OEM bumpers -- at least on lighter colors. I feel that it adds a touch of ruggedness to the design of an SUV that will likely never see any true off-roading (and no, dirt roads, work sites, et al don't count -- if you can get there without mudders, locking differentials, and a solid rear axle, it's not off-road, IMO). And of course they're easier to deal with in terms of parallel parking.
That said, there is something about the painted bumpers that looks oh-so polished and complete. If they came this way from the factory (and I'll admit that I'm surprised they didn't), I doubt I'd be sitting around bltching and moaning about the fact that they weren't unpainted plastic. I would be bltchiing and moaning the first time they got scratched up, though.

| Honestly, I don't like painted bumper inserts especially seeing this silver color MDX from OP. It looks cheap & weak. Painted inserts on the sterling gray was a good match up. I have seen plenty of silver X's on the road, & they're just fine the way they are. Totally agree with couple members in here regarding the ruggedness look to original inserts. That said, I guess it's up to personal taste. Just my $0.02 of honesty. |

I don't know that I'd go so far as to call it "cheap & weak", but I do agree that jjacek's Sterling Gray X (or is it Nimbus Gray) is a better fit for this mod. Formal Black would look pretty tight, too, IMO.

Are you serious? It doesn't look cheap & weak to you?. Heck. I'll go a step further, it looks like a FAKE. :28:
P.S. Formal black would be the only color that would look best for this mod. IMO. |

Doesn't look cheap and weak to me either, sorry.
I will acknowledge that I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say cheap and weak.
And I don't understand what you mean by "fake" either. Do you mean that it's trying to be more "butch off-roader" than it actually is? If so, I can see that. But it honestly doesn't bother me at all.
I take my X off road on sites every day, and can appreciate the extra protection from scratches from brush and mud and crap that the plastic pieces provide. To me, they actually are useful. |

"butch off-roader" is exactly it. Looks like someone painted in their garage. Ugly with the captial CHEAP & WEAK. I stand firm. :28: |

cheap and weak ? LOL ... you think that the painted color matched bumpers look cheap ? ...
those crappy grey plastic inserts look cheap .. on every color ... they arent as bad on silver but look absolutely TERRIBLE on others.. such as white ...
as far as people liking the ruggedness look of the unpainted inserts.. if i wanted a RUGGED looking SUV i would have gotten a jeep ... its a 45k LUXURY SUV .. the least they could do is color match these
but to each his own .. some will like the painted inserts.. some wont :) im happy with em |
|
|
| TomCrane |
Lionspeed - just to add .. these werent "painted in my garage"... they were painted at a reputable paint place .. not some cheap maaco paint job either
im still baffled how you can think that the unpainted gritty looking inserts can in any way possible look better then something that is color matched to the car
i guess if thats what you think looks good .. thats all that matters |
|
|
| Fabvsix |
If "I' wanted a mommie SUV I would have gotten the Lexus LX350 cause painting them reminds me of it....I like the uniqueness of the plastic bumper inserts...
Just my two cents....for each their own.....
:lurk: :lurk: :lurk: :lurk:
Just as I didn't like the "unpainted" muffler tanks, so I painted eacj one flat black..... |
|
|
| Fabvsix |
| un-painted....YUCKO |
|
|
| TomCrane |
so you say painting the bumpers makes it look like a mommie suv .. yet you go through all the work to make sure muffler tanks are painted ?
i guess its obvious we all have difference tastes here
is there anyone complaining that the RDX comes with painted bumpers..... does that make it look likea mommie SUV too ? .. would you guys prefer that they came with unpainted inserts?
like i said ....in the end .. all that matters is that I AM HAPPY with the look..i posted the pictures in case anyone else was thinking of doing it but wasnt sure how it would look on silver |
|
|
| Fabvsix |
As long as your happy Tom, I'm happy......
Btw the RDX painted bumpers are lousy and don't match at all......known issue too!
Enjoy your X! :4: |

im pretty sure you are wrong .. he was saying that the painted pieces looked cheap .. like they were done in a garage ... but hey cant please everyone :)
main thing here is .. we all love our mdx's :) .. now i just gotta get my hands on a set of MDX sport running boards ... the sides look so naked without em |
|

Yeah, LS wasn't mincing words regarding his feelings towards the painted inserts, but then he never minces his words. Different strokes for different folks, right?
As for your X Tom, I agree that the sport running boards would finish it off quite nicely. You might also want to consider the BSMs, which I think break up the slab sides a bit (though they don't seem to do much with respect to door dings, at least if my X is anything to go by...).
Anyway, keep the pictures coming.

Hahahaha!. Sounds like you know me a lil' too well. Don't need to soften my words nor I want to. I say what I feel & mean it. I'm not those pretending to be nice & sincere. For those who posts a thread is assumed to receive compliments & criticisms. Every one is entitled to his/her opinion & sharings. Frankly, if you can't stand the heat, stay out. ;) |

believe me .. ure not ****ting in my cornflakes with your comments.. you are more then welcome to your opinion ...
i dont expect that everyone is going to like the same things.. i didnt like the unpainted inserts.. so i painted em .. you like the unpainted inserts.. so you leave em alone .. in the end we are both happy. I can always go back to the unpainted inserts as i still have the orig ones.. the ones painted were an extra set but something tells me i wont be doing that anytime soon. |

Good job on the mod !! :) ...I like the fact that you tried it, people should give you credit for that... it's those people who try it and show it that sometimes cause everyone to do the same. If someone isn't the guinea pig then others may never know.
And that being said if you like it then it's awesome. 50% will agree ...50% will disagree ...I've been on TONS of forums which get into debates/arguments over mods ...in the end it makes the forum better for having people who venture out of the realm of adding standard add-ons like running boards etc. :trustme: so I appreciate the effort.
Also in other brands it's an upgrade to get painted inserts ...you have to pay extra or buy higher models to get them painted ...so saying painting them is cheap is like saying bigger rims/wheels are cheap when we all know we pay extra at the stealership for that upgrade. Less drama more modding !!! :) |
