I always leave radar detector, and radio on, navigation (on by factory), but when i start engine everything will shut down and restart again kinda anoying, wish i can bypass that.
I just knew on ML350 when you start engine will not cut the power off on those radio, radar detector, or navigation....etc.
Hummm, MB goes one step ahead before Acura, also on 7 gears transmition.

Huh?? When I restart my engine, my radio comes on where I left it, you still have to clear the legal warning no matter what, and my V1 comes on since it's hardwired to the fusebox. I really don't understand what you mean.

Hi,
I hardwired my V1 too, when you turn your key to II, radar turn on, but V1 will restart again after you restart your engine, right.

Almost every car made, when started, will shut down just about every circuit, in order to send all the available battery power to the start/ignition circuit. This is a design feature, and not just an Acura thing. When you flip the key to the start position only the start/ignition and 'hot battery' circuits will remain powered.

If you don't see the logic now, just wait until it's below zero, and you need the car to start. Manufactures have been designing this feature into their cars for decades. Actually, a pretty neat feature.

BTW-
If you dive into the wiring diagrams for the Mercedes, you will find the same design feature.

I understand what you said, but you talk about old design, MB have their new design, doesn't shut down.
Now a day you get on internet by your cell phone, but Acura design only let you see the numer not the name on MID. What do you think about it.
Also Acura is limited on phone to import phone book, but not on MB.
MB navigation system let you see cell phone signal, messages indicator, and you can choose to display by names or number.

Your point in all of this?

^ agree if your going to flame the MDX then get the MB that you praise highly.

Also take into account the safety to your electronics by having them isloated from the sag in voltage during startup. Personally, I would like to protect my electronics from a voltage source that is being called on to turn the engine over in extreme conditions sometimes.

Ever watch your lights dim during startup? Voltage sag...

While I don't have a horse in this particular race (as far as I know, both my Mercedes and Acura act the same way during start up), before we start attacking a fellow forum member for bad grammar and flaming, let's step back a second and realize two things: 1) this is America (and Canada): people come from all over, so it's a bit chauvinistic to assume that everyone's native language is English; and 2) our cars aren't perfect, and this is an appropriate place to air our greivances: for example, I love my X (and I'm sure that the Black X does as well), but can it be improved upon? Yup. Do I wish that it had certain features that are found on less expensive cars? Sure I do. Does it have little quirks that leave me scratching my head from time to time? Uh-huh. And this is where I come to say these things.

So, in the spirit of what I've found to be one of the more tolerant and insightful forums out there, let's cut the Black X a break, and do what we do best, which is discuss our cars in a fair and balanced manner, cool?

Regards,
Adam

PS - BTW, I'm speaking generally here, as several of the posts have addressed the concerns stated by the OP in fair and technical terms.

I didn't know MB design better than Acura after 2 months I got my MDX. MB ML350 will be on top of my list for next SUV.
Acura dealer fixed clicking noise on my X by piece of paper, humm. :3:
An E350 '07 always park next to my X.

One point to ponder.....compare the MSRP of the X vs. an ML 350. I would expect that the extra price of the Mercedes be justified by extra / better integrated features. Just as I could not see paying a very similar price for a CX9 (great SUV) as I could get an X for. The Mazda does not have the content or features to command such a price. Nor does the X have the content to justify paying the $10k+ extra it will take to get a comprably equipped ML 350.

I equipped a 2008 ML350 as close to a 2008 MDX Tech as I could. MSRP of $43,695 vs. $57,000 plus.

PEACE PEACE PEACE.................PEACE.:7: :7:
Yes I do love my X, but the clicking noise make me really frustrated. Every two week I have to bring the vehicle back to dealer to replace new peice of paper to stop clicking noises, what I called change diaper. Wish that not happend on my 50K luxury.
I came here with $2 and no English, took few ESL couses. Then I have to work my butt off, now I take a little brake, to enjoy my life living in America.
Thanks Giving is coming up this weekend, I would like to thank you American, Canadian people for helping my people to have a better life, brighter future.
HAPPY THANKS GIVING TO EVERYONE.

I can certainly understand your frustration at Acura's "fix"....... I think that would get anyone's goat. Did you ever send that picture to Acura of North America?

That's in interesting observation Black X pointed out about the accessory outlets and radio not being cut at start up. I've always wondered that as well and it looks like MB is confident that their electronics will not be impacted by power fluctuations at start up. Or maybe that's why MB electronics are constantly going bad?

Not a deal killer for me, but there's one thing that totally blows my mind is the fact that 01-06 MDX's with auto headlights do not auto shut off if they are manually turned on. Already used 3 AAA requests for a dead battery this year.

I thought the 01 lights turned off after some time if you lock the car.
Simi_MDX
If I am not mistaken, 01's don't have AUTO ON headlights, so they automatically turn off if you forget (works the same as my 98 Accord...and is totally great). On the 06, it only turns off if they are set to AUTO ON (parking and manual headlights don't). Really stupid and backwards engineering on Honda's part.
highcountrymdx
If I were going to rethink anything on the MDX, I would start with the lighting system. In subsequent years some of these concerns have been addressed:

1. No auto off timer features for headlights.
2. No across the board DRL feature.
3. No auto dimming of navi screen at night.
4. Headlight switching on ground side of lighting loads, instead of of hot side (makes lighting modification tougher).
5. Unlit steering wheel controls.
6. No HID lighting (probably one of the widely discussed subject on this board).

As I see it, Honda needs to start over again with lighting issues.

Maybe it's because I'm a new Member, or don't have experience with the first generation MDX's, but I'm not quite understanding what you're posting here? With the exception of item 4, which I have no way of knowing is still the case or not, all of these issues have been addressed on the '07 and up MDX.

What is it you are saying Honda needs to start over again with ?

As I noted in a previous thread, this is a case of an incompetent dealer service shop. What the dealer is calling a shim kit is not an Acura shim kit. You should find another dealer that knows what they are doing and then call Acura corporate to complain about the original dealer's service dept.

I did bring to 2 dealer, first one tell me wait for update shim kit, second one put piece of paper they call update shim kit. Acura Client Serv. said clicking noise is normal, that is characteristic of Acura b/s. If they admited bad design, they have to recall thousands and thousands MDX for that problem, will cost them millions.
I guess for now just keep driving untill i can not leave with those noise, i will get another SUV. I have wasted too much time with this problem by calling Acura corporate, dealers, and leave my X at dealers 3 time took about 10 days, but problem not fix. I GIVE UP.
Happy Thanks Giving.
