Can someone please tell me where the drain plug is located on the MDX (general area of the car)? I looked in the manual but that drawing helps in no way what so ever.

Also, what size bolt is the plug. The manual also says to use a tube to drain the coolant, but does anyone know what size hose, I need?

Thanks

Is this what I'm looking for? Is it plastic?

That would be my guess.....are you changing the hoses? If you are might be easier to drain itby removing the lower hose.

Does anyone know if the plug will be on the drivers side or passenger side?

I'm assuming it's at the front of the car, under the splash guard is that correct?

Thanks

If you want to completely drain the cooling, you need to lose 2 plugs: One under the radiator and one in back of the engine. Both of them are closer to the passager side. The one in back of engine needs to use a host to drop the cooling otherwise it will make a whole mess.

Thomas, thanks.

Ok, I found the plug on the radiator (looks just like the one in the above link, it faces horizontally towards the rear of the MDX). I'm still unsure on the bolt that is on "the rear of the cylinder block."

Can anyone tell me which way it is facing, such as straight down or to the rear of the vehicle?

Thanks

Hello Sim311,
Great you found the one under the radiator. The other bolt is
in the other side of the engine if you stand in front of the MDX(from the engine point toward to the passenger).
Turn your wheel all way to point to left so you can look into the engine throught the gap between the tire and the door in the passenger side(slightly look up to the engine if you lay on the ground facing upward). It has a lockable type bolt with a small tube in the center for drain the flux. You need the same size plastic tube to connect to this drain tube. Wish I have a scanner or the electirc version of the service manual so I can copy the picture for you.

Good luck and have fun DIY.

There is a 19mm plug on the front of the engine, behind the exhaust manifold. It is where the block heater goes. Pull that to drain the block, easier to get at.

Does anyone know what size of tubing is needed to slip over the block drain on a 2005 so draining the antifreeze doesn't make a mess? I would think a clear vinyl tubing should do the trick but knowing the I/D of the tubing would help.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

It is actually a plug threaded into the block. When you pull it there will be a hole. Just put a wide pan under and you will catch 99% of it.
