I was wondering if my 02 MDX can tow an open trailer with my EVO on the back?
I know the car weighs about 32-3300 lbs.... but I'm not sure how much a trailer weighs... |

| Do you have the tow package on the MDX? meaning it has the coolers. If you do you can tow 4500. Some have said they don't feel comfortable towing over 3300 because of transmission and brakes concerns. |

Step 1: Calculate total weight of car + trailer
Step 2: Using owner's manual calculate your total towing capacity based on # of passengers, installation of towing package, etc.
Step 3:Subtract Step 1 result from Step 2 result. If your number is greater than 0, you're good to go. |

The MDX tow rating is calculated with 4 adults in the car. While most other vehicles are based with just a driver. That is why the "boat" tow rating is 4500 instead of the usual 5000lbs. However, even with the towing package the tow rating for towing a "regular" trailer is only 3000 lbs.
As for towing your EVO, typical auto trailers are at least 1000 lbs so you will be quite close to the limit of even the boat tow rating.
So just depends if you want to go by that or the "regular trailer" rating of 3000 lbs or the boat trailer rating.
The difference is mostly due to the wind resistance of towing a boxy trailer versus a more areo friendly boat. Esp at speed this can put huge strain on the vehicle/trans. |

Yeah, I will need to look for a lightweight aluminum trailer that'll at least be open, have its own electrical braking system, and a manual winch, in case I blow up my 500+ AWHP EVO at the track, I'll need to be able to get the car onto the trailer somewhow in order to get the car home.
I'll look into this some more... |
