Hi,
I have an 04 MDX and the Camera has died. I checked it out with a Mechanic buddy and there is still power coming to the camera when it gets put in reverse so I believe the camera unit itself has died.
I've been checking into these things and the price of the OEM replacement camera is $800 CDN.
I've had some guys recomend just buying a universal camera and using that. I can buy a real good one for $120 US from crimestopper that is probably better technology that the OEM one.
The problem is that the one I would buy only has 3 wires coming out of it. Power, Ground, and Video. The factory one has about 6 wires coming out of it into the wiring harness that runs up to the Nav display.
Has anyone done this and if so do you have a wiring diagram or any suggestions here.
Thanks,
Mario |

| Are you out of warranty? If you're going to have it fixed yourself, you can pick up OEM cameras from ebay every now and then. |

Yes, I am out of Warranty which is why I'm diggin into this.
I have already pulled the back apart to take a look at the camera unit and have seen that the camera has 6 wires coming out of it into the wiring harness. Any of the cameras you can buy online that I have seen have 3 wires - video, power, and ground.
What I am trying to do is understand how to hook up one of the universal cameras with 3 wires (cost approx $120) into the wiring harness with 6 wires. I really dont want to buy the OEM camera for $800 when the universal ones I have spec'd out are so much cheaper and better resolution too.
If anyone out there has done this I would really appreciate any advise or suggestions. Wiring diagrams, etc...
Thanks,
Mario |

I have an 04, and I just had my camera replaced last month, under warranty.
Failure went like this:
When in reverse, the video would flicker, then clear.
Later, it would flicker more and more. Putting it in park and reverse again would clear it up.
Then it started dropping to black sometimes. Most other times it would come on, but flicker all the time.
Finally dead, no image at all.
Took about 2-3 months. I thought it was the change in the weather, but I guess not. |

| Mine (04) was replaced under warranty also about a year ago. In the US, the warranty is 4 years, so if anyone has an 04 this is the last year. |

Add another to the list. Our '04 had the camera replaced 2 months ago. Extended warranty paid for itself there. |
