I just recently installed one of these caps. Either someone stole one of the OEM or lost I do not know. Nevertheless, I ordered these and so far so good. I like them because no one would steal them, since I have the key to unlock them now.

I'm confused, how exactly does this lock??

I'm no expert. I try to explain how it works:
If you do not have the key, when you try to unscrew them they just keep turning and turning.

I think inside the cap itself there is a rotating cylinder, then the outside cap just a normal valve cap. So, the inside cylinder actually that screw into the stem valve. The outside cap is just to cover the inner cap that rotates and locks. So, in order to unlock the cap, I use a custom made key (it's small that I attached to the car key) and turn counter clockwise, then voila! at first I was puzzled too, but then I know how it works, very easy. Got them from ebay.

I hope I explain that clearly.

Valve caps are so very cheap, why would you ever worry about someone stealing one (or More)? I am very surprised that there is sufficient demand that anyone would even make a "lockable" valve cap.

I threw mine away after I lost one since they didn't match any more. They were a nuisance when checking tire pressure and rotating tires since you always have to have that extra valve wrench on top of my wheel lock thingie. They look good, though.

Maybe they are so other people don't come and let the air out of your tires :p ....pranks etc... but then they could just stab the tire if they reallllyyy wanted to do that :8:
