I'm starting to see more Acura's whole line up commercials in prime time local channels. They're a lil' slow, but better late than never.

| 392 RLs. That is embarrassing for that segment. The team that designed that car should be taking a long walk on a short pier... |

Maybe because it looks too plain to be an RL :p ...I mean past RLs stood out ...this one is lost in the clutter ...its actually less noticeable than the TL imo. And for the price you pay it dosen't look all that good ...at least that's what I think. |

Many, many thanks for the spread sheet:
Those numbers are devastating:
I doubt Acura will keep the RL in production much longer. I predict it will go the way of the Infiniti Q45. When the RL first came out, I posted it was a complete DUD - BUST. I said it was too small, no back seat, no trunk and average performance. SH-AWD was a gimmick that was negligible in improvement of handling.
Consumers Reports then panned the RL as well.
While I am not happy to see a car fail, I feel vindicated when I see "The emperors new clothes" and call it like it is!
We all know that both the MDX and RDX are only a year old. But who would have thought that both of these cars would be taking such a sales hit after only one year???
Certainly not Honda/Acura!
The RDX with a 4 cylinder engine priced in the mid 30's: It is a joke.
Acura forgot what made the MDX popular in the first place: Value!. Bells and whistles are nice, but the car jumped from mid '30's to low '40's.
As I previously posted when you go into the $40's, you are catering to an entirely different buyer - one who puts prestige (whatever that is, but Mercedes, Lexus and BMW have it and Infinti, Audi and Acura do not) above function and design.

Agreed Jeff. When I first saw the RL price I wondered what Acura was smoking.
I'm sure that some of the MDX decline is due to gas prices. Trucks are having problems selling for all makes. The BMW X3 was down 15% for November year to year and 5.9% YTD. X5 sales were 3,206 but year to year numbers aren't useful since the model was changing over last year. YTD the X5 is up 25% over 2006.
Like you, I see Acura as value luxury. Seems like they are pushing the price limit and getting push back on sales. They either need to lower prices a tad or establish a stronger brand which is hard to do.
BMW has the advantage of being a premium only brand and that seems to allow for larger margins. |

Couldn't agree more - you said it better than I did: Acura is value luxury
The fact of the matter is that when you go north of $40,000 image takes over - you can get very good value and luxury below $40,000.
I remember posting that a Rolex cost 10 times as much as a Seiko
and does not tell time as well. But one is a Rolex and the other is a Seiko - totally different markets.
I laughed the other day when a high end Seiko with diamonds was advertised for $499 - the cleaning/overhaul on my Rolex cost more than that.
Please do not get me wrong - I am not defending the cost of the Rolex. It is a luxury item that I treated myself to.
Here on Long Island (North Shore) the same ownership, Rallye, owns Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Maybach and Acura. I can guarantee you that I am one the few who actually cross shopped the other brands before I decided on the MDX. The people who are in the Mercedes/BMW/Lexus dealer aeven dress differently from the shoppers in the Acura dealership (they are side buy side). I have not seen or even heard of someone going from the Mercedes dealership to the Acura dealership (except me of course)
For Acura to remain meaningful, I suggest Honda/Acura swallow your pride, do what you do well - as you said luxury and value.
I know others will start to post that for the same price the MDX is better than the BMW X5 and the Mercedes ML350. Of course it is - but that fact is irrelevant.
People who are looking at a Mercedes, BMW or Lexus do not look at either Infiniti or Acura and rarely even Audi.

Just as I treated myself to a pair of hand made Lucchase boots that cost me $3000.00.....:1: |
