This morning a little old lady was turning left across traffic and my wife broad-sided her. Wife was going about 50mph when she realized what was about to happen. She stood on the brakes prior to impact. The airbag did not activate.
My wife had a green light, the little old lady didn't have a turn arrow, and didn't yield at her green light (of course she claims to have had a turn arrow).
I'm impressed with the brakes of the X that slowed the beast down so quickly and controllably. The damage to the X doesn't look too bad considering, and the car drives fine. However, I'm sure the damage will still be a couple thousand to fix (if not more).

that hurts, at least you are ok?
and at least her car took the brunt of the damage for what it's worth. |

My wife is actually going to the doctor right at this moment as her lower back is hurting her. I'm sure it's just strained, but my wife was in a wreck a few years ago (not her fault again) and the insurance company rushed to get her to sign that she was fine. A few days later the pain set in and she had to go to the doctor and we were stuck with that bill.
Moral of the story is don't sign anything from any insurance company saying you're fine until sufficient time passes. |

Glad to hear no one was hurt too badly. It is a good idea to wait a while before you sign anything. I hope your wife feels better.
I am impressed with the minimal damage to your MDX. The other car has major damage to both doors and your car only seems to have some scratches on the bumper. |

That sucks ....old people :cursin:
Sorry the other day I was driving behind this OLD woman in the BIGGEST old (1970-80s) looking car it was taking up the whole freaking lane ... and she was drifting over the middle white lines and all that ..I was actually scared to try to past her ..so I just lingered behind ... then we pulled up at a light ..so i went to the left along the side of her ...ready to pass as the light changed ...and I was watching her ..she looked like 100 easy :p ...but here's the kicker ...she starts looking for something in her purse and while doing this the car starts rolling foward ....I guess she took her foot off the brake ...and I was like ..what the hell !!! ...and I started hitting the horn since there was a car infront of her ...but by the time she looked up from her purse ...bang !!....and then she put on the MOST shocked looked ..like if the person infront hit her !!....the light changed ...I just drove off ..it was a hit from the back so obviously she was wrong ..so there was no need to stop especially on the way to work :p...old people :cursin: |

You should report her. The police actually keep tabs on these reports and after so many calls, they can take action against her. I've called in on road ragers and old people. Once in a while the highway patrol receptionist will actually tell me that "yes, that plate was reported once already this week". Makes you feel good that you are one step closer toward getting that person off the road for a while!

Sorry to hear about the wreck, but glad the MDX performed well and
the damage was minimal. Hope your wife is feeling better soon! |

| Unfortunate about the accident, but I am impressed with the small amount of damage your X had after seeing the picture of the other car. I would have thought that all that plastic would have just disintegrated. Driving in FL I've had my share of experience with elder drivers. Nothing better than driving defensively 100% of the time! |

I agree that old people should be checked by the DMV if they can still SAFELY drive on the road. But there's really no need to curse the "old people"... we will all be "old" some day...;) |

I'm glad that your wife is seeking treatment. I work in a chiropractic/acupuncture office. You'll be amazed of how much as little as 20mph impact can damage your spine. We have whole bunch of patients came into our office because of old whiplash injury that was never taking care of. I don't know about the state you lived in, but in California, you can get reinbursed for you medical bill even if you have signed the insurance paper(I think up to 2 years from the accident). Most of the people don't really feel the effect of impact right away, sometimes even several weeks. Good luck!:) |

| That Detroit steel didn't hold up too well to Japanese plastic did it? :2: |

The differences in damages is not that surprising. When I got broadsided years ago in a Ford Explorer, the other car barely looked damaged in comparison. Body shop said that is due to the side of a car being the "fleshy" or weaker part. The front end with the frame members and engine stands up better in the collision. Be thankful the air bags didn't go off - you'd have to get a new dash.
Good luck with the repair!! |

Any car that is broad sided is going to look worse. . . |

| Your opinion in WAY WRONG! Look at the damage this POS lincon got from BROADSIDING US IN OUR 03 MDX!!!!! |

| Our 03 MDX damage at NO more that 35 mph.... |

I feel the new MDX did QUITE well hitting this POS at 50 mph with that little of damage!
Me saying good bye to my MINT MDX taken away by some careless idiot 3 block from my house. The cops thought it was brand new. It would have been 12 months old in a week or so. It sustained nearly $10K in damage. I traded it upon repair for an 05......... |

| ouch, it is photos like yours that make me wonder if it is worth all the coats of wax etc to keep it like new, to then have it taken away because some idiot runs a stop sign or light; the insurance doesn't really care what condition it's in, do they? |

No they really don't care ...I was hit in the back by a lady who slid on some ice and came into the intersection on a red light and hit me while I was crossing on green. Everyone said the car was in excellent condition ..like new etc. it was 2 years old. Insurance replaced with new/factory parts etc. since it was only a 2 year old and that was it ..life moved on ...I traded it in for the X. The only good of keeping your car good is in your eyes. I still take super care of my cars as usual... but know somewhere in the back of mind one stupid person can take it all away in seconds. I've been in 2 serious (totalled) and 1 not so serious accident all at intersections...I've never been wrong ..people always hit me... sigh* the only good point is now I'm paranoid at intersections :p |

I feel you on that picture Fab...I got hit from behind while waiting at a red light ...funny part the car next to me was a cop car so he saw the whole thing ..and while my car was crushed from the back seat go back (totalled) he tells me while waiting on an ambulance to take the person in my back seat to the hospital that he was watching the car at the time and he was thinking how awesome it looked. .....YEAH !!..THANKS !! ..that's something you don't say to people at that point ..doesn't help the pain. |

Went inside Cirle K and parked my brand new 2003 Accord V6 right in front. Heard a bam while I was paying for my soda, came running out and this beat up Toyota truck was trying to drive away after backing into the front of my Accord. Got him to stop and this two guys came out and the passenger said there wasn't any damage and he wrote it on a piece of paper that there was no damage to my car and wanted me to sign it. I told him to go F himself and said I'm waiting for the police and if he wants to leave then I'm telling the officer is a hit and run. Long story short, the insurance they gave me had already been cancelled for non payment, but my insurance (State Farm) didn't make me pay any deductable because it wasn't my fault and they were going after the other guys insurance company.
Got the Accord fixed and the body shop matched the paint perfectly, but it just wasn't the same anymore. Is idiots on the road that makes me afraid to drive the MDX around. |

One day about a year ago I was driving home from work on the LIE from work in nyc and I was listening to music. I was in a very good mood despite I was in my commuter car {2004 civic ex} and out of no where BOOM!! I had no idea what hit me but it felt like I crashed into a wall. I pulled over and got out and looked at the car and it turns out I was hit with a tire. I was so pissed but I came home smiling b.c ifd the tire came 1 foot higher thats where my head would be.
Car was fixed
I want a TSX so I was hoping it was totaled |

As a conclusion to this thread the car has been fixed to the tune of $3800. I was actually surprised at how much it cost to fix.
As you read from the first post this was a "he said, she said" incident. The little old ladys' insurance company called and talked to my wife to get her side of the story. My wife told the insurance adjuster her side and he asked if she was sure that's what went down. My wife said absolutely that is exactly what happened, no doubt about it.
He then came clean and said the little old lady told him she thought she had a turn arrow, but wasn't 100% sure. Since my wife was unwavering in her story they said they would pay for everything.
I'm just glad to have the car back. |
