Hey everyone am a proud owner of my new 05 MDX for about month and loving it everyday...Wife happy kids happy so everyone is happy..
Just the other day i let my dad drove it from an event i had to the house...I had to ride on a limousine back home and to my surprise he tells me that he didn't know in what gear to put it with all those option as 12345 GO FIGURE....so he said he tried to call me to ask me in what gear to drive it, and since i was busy and couldn't answer he said he drove it with gear shift all the way down WHICH I'M GUESSING that would be 1st and 2nd next to each other...
He said he didn't feel a difference and it drove just fine...

Any damage he might done to it...its been a week know everything seems fine.

I tried to put in first gear in my driveway the other day and 1st gear on my dashboard doesn't not light up and stays in second is this normal?

Thanks for any advice...

Sounds like he drove it in 2nd gear. All the way down is 2nd gear. Probably didn't do any damage for the comparatively short period of time in operation.

To get to 1st gear you have to put it in 2nd gear, and then move the lever horizontally to the left. See if that works.

IT should be fine, I assume he was driving on local roads? Well, each gear just limits the speed it can get up to. I mean, if he was driving on the highway in 2nd, the rpms would be really high. Tranny should be fine, its the motor you might worry about. But I really doubt anything went wrong. If it drives fine and theres no CELs, you should be ok.

yeah thanks... its great to hear that and yes it was street roads not highway and knowing the way he drive he probably never went near or above 45mph...

About engaging first gear i tried to move the lever to the left after being in 2nd gear position but light doesnot lit up on dashboard...

After i knew what my dad did i test drove the mdx in 2nd gear around the block to see how high he mighty been revving the engine and to my surprise it drove normal although it felt a little on the heavy side..DUMB QUESTION but is it ok to drive in this gear when going off-road< NOW DONT EAT ME ALIVE ITS NOT ROCK-CLIMBING!!>
I meant like going camping or to a fishing spot where there is slightly rocks, gravel or dirt nothing extreme but out of the flat surface pavement...

Do you get better traction in low gear like 2nd driving at low speeds or does it send more power to the rear also...?
