Well, this is not a thread posted to offer useful information, but I thought you guys would get a groan over it.
Background: I purchased a 2007 Tech on 10/31/07, delivered on 11/1/07 with full CPO. I purchased the car outside of Boston and it was delivered to me in NY the next day. I will never buy out of state in Mass again, but that's a whole different story.
As part of the CPO process, a 90 day XM trial period is included, much like when the vehicle was new. About 1 week into ownership, I notice that my XM nav traffic has stopped working. If you request information it tells you "no traffic informaiton is available within 30 miles". Sometimes the request option is grayed out completely.
Strange, as my XM radio is working fine. I had it into the local dealer last Thursday for some other stuff, and had them look at this. They verified that the XM was working fine and that if I wanted the XM Nav Traffic, it was another $3.99 / month. Start of problem.......
I remind them that I purchased the car less than 45 days prior, and I have a 90 day trial, and verify that the traffic service is included in the trial. They reply that it is. I ask what they are going to do in order to get it working. Their reply is they cannot do anything, as the dealer who sold the car technically pays for the subscription, and that they are the one who needs to call to get it re-activated. Well thanks guys, for making that phone call for me. I appreciate it.
So I call the dealer in Boston, and speak to service. Service has no idea what I'm talking about, and promises to call me back. 15 minutes later (nice) the guy calls back and says "XM Nav traffic is an additional $3.99 a month over the regular service". So I remind this guy that I am under free trial. In that case, I am told, Sales is the only one who can activate it. I told him who I purchased the car from, and he noted that he would take care of it, and that it might be 24-48 hours before it is activated. We all know this is BS, it is activated almost instantly in most cases.
Well, next day, no traffic info. I call the dealer and leave a message with the sales person. No call back.
Fast forward to today, and lo and behold, still no traffic. I call back to Acura of Boston, and leave another message for the sales guy. I get a message back about 30 minutes later while I'm on the Nextel, to which I hear "I tried to leave you a message last week at your home number, but I'm not sure it went through. In any event, XM Nav Traffic is an additional $3.99 / month...."
Upon deleting the message I called back and got him. I asked "do I or do I not get a 3 month XM trial with the CPO purchase?" "Yes", is the answer. "Well, since I still get the trial, don't I get a trial period of XM Nav Traffic as well". Again, "Yes" is the answer. "OK, fine." To which his answer is "well, all you have to do is call 1-800-XM-whatever and tell them you're under the free trial, and have them re-activate it."
WTF? :3:
I say, "I can't do that, I have no authority to do that and besides, shouldn't you be doing that for me?" The answer? "Well I guess I can do that for you".
Talk about customer service...... |

I certainly understand your problem and sympathize. That is one reason that I have/will never, ever purchase a a new vehicle from a dealer more than 50 miles from my home. If it costs a few hundred more to purchase at home, so be it!!

How about $3,000, and the color you really want?
And why wouldn't my local dealer go out of their way to give me service? They know I am local....
I just can't understand attitudes of modern dealerships. |

Let's do a reality check here:
You're freaked out by three months of a $3.99 charge?
Don't you think your energy could be directed at something like world peace, or melting of the ice caps, or whether chocolate is better than vanilla? |

I purchased my 2008 MDX mid November. As of yesterday, my XM radio no longer works. My 3 month subscription was really only 30 days. How lame is that?
I have neither the time or the desire to call anyone at XM or my dealer. |

Nope. Not freaked out by $3.99 / month. Don't have any intention of continuing XM service for either music or nav.
Simply pissed off at a lack of customer service. People want to sell you a car, well freaking follow up on it. Don't pull this BS.
By the way, vanilla is WAY better, and that is a scientific fact. Many more flavor compounds in vanilla.
World peace will never happen as long as there are more than 2 men on the planet, and the ice caps will melt eventually.
Merry Christmas. :2: |

I've learned that calling 1 800-XMRADIO is the quickest way to get this stuff done. Yeah, maybe it's someone else's screw-up, but if I want my radio to work, I'm gonna call.
In fact, I went through the same thing with the XM on my RL (which came with a full year of XM). XM kept wanting to treat it as a 30-day trial, so I had to tell them to work it out with Acura.
They fixed it.

As of yesterday, still nothing from the dealer.
Called XM and did it myself. Had to listen to three sales pitches.....1) sign up for multi-year contract. 2) Sign up for "automatic renewal". 3) Sign up for 1 year contract.

Like most companies, XM customer service is outsourced and incompetent. However, that does work out to your advantage sometimes. In the two years I had XM, I really only paid for one year due to their mistakes. When you activate a subscription, you also get access to stream most of the channels via their internet site for free. If you don't have an active sub the streaming costs $7.99/month. When I canceled my sub, they never turned off the internet access, so I still get that for free. |
