Try this with your brakes! - Click HERE for Original Thread

So I'm sitting at a red light tonight and because I'm on an incline, I keep pressing pretty hard on my brake pedal. Then I start noticing that the pedal is slowly moving farther and farther down toward the floorboard as I apply pressure to it.

The brakes were holding, but in a few seconds the pedal felt like it was all the way down to the floor. That's really not too good, and it's the feeling I used to get in the Old Days when my brake master cylinder was losing pressure.

So, next time you are sitting stopped at a light, try keeping firm pressure on your brake pedal and see if it slowly creeps to the floor. I'm wondering if it's just brake booster pressure bleeding off, or if I have a problem.

I'd bring it in and see if they got an error code....that's not right...

I have the same problem and they said it was normal, thought it happens after 10 or so seconds.

I am not sure all 07/08 MDX drivers realize that their brake lights are blinding. I was driving behind a new MDX the other night in bumper to bumper traffic and changed lanes because the brake lights were painful and just annoying.

So if you want to annoy anyone behind you just ride the brakes.

Actually that brake pedal does go far further down even normally, than other SUV's both German and Japanese.

That is strange behviour and I will try it.

I had to try it and yes, mine went all the way down to the floor with added constant pressure. Once I lifted and tap the brakes, I get full bite again. Interesting design. I am actually not worried at all. The brakes on the X are pretty impressive in the few times I had to stand on them.

I agree. The LED brake lights are pretty bright. I was behind my wife at a stoplight once at night while she drove the X. Sitting in a car, the brake lights are at eye level. After she drove off, the red lights were still burned in my retina.

Correct on all the topics within this thread. The Brakes will go to floor, but recoil nicely. The tail lights will burn into your eyes, the Murano's lights do this as well. Good thing I am driving :) And last the brakes work incredibly well. Best stopping power I have driven as far as SUV's go. Again this is in my experience.

Question on the brake pedal going to the floor.....

So if your at a long stop light with your foot on the brake, will it always go to the floor? Or does it take 'extra' pressure to make this happen.

Seems like there would be a lot more negative owner feedback (or at least some better dealership explanation) if this were a consistent occurence at traffic

The X isn't the only vehicle using LED's. One reason to switch to LED's is to be seen. I like them.

They also are a better choice for lighting in your home instead of the ever so popular CFL's. If you haven't made the switch to CFL's in your home yet think about LED's. They use less power, last 6 times longer than CFL, generate better light. An incandescent bulb will last 1500 hours, CFL last 10,000 hours and an LED will last 60,000 hours.

Ok, I'm off my soap box now.

LEDs also have faster response times. Even though the difference between regular lamps and LEDs may seem minor in this regard, in certain circumstances the difference is enough to make the difference between being rear-ended and giving the guy behind you time enough to hit the brakes.

Next time you're driving behind a car with regular tail lamps and an LED CHMSL (center high-mounted stop light), see if you can catch the split second difference between when the LED lights and the tail lights brighten.

Adam

It usually takes extra presure to make it do this, but I've always noticed a certain amount of sponginess to the brake pedal when depressed and holding the car at a stop.

The brakes hold the vehicle fine, but if you keep pushing, you will run out pedal travel in a few seconds as it sinks to the carpet.
