I have an 04 mdx with Nav. I live in an area where the nearest acura dealer is 30 miles away whereas the nearest honda dealer is 8 miles away. I called the honda dealer and they said they would change my oil for $26 inlcuding taxes.
Has any one had any problems with Honda dealers servicing their acuras?

I have taken my 2002 MDX to both the Acura dealer and a Honda dealer. Since the Honda dealership is much larger (10X the Acura dealer) it is very easy to get service and they have a drive up 30 minute oil change. The Honda dealer is alway a few $ cheaper.
However the Honda dealer does not have loaner cars. In addition, Honda dealerships can not perform warranty work on Acuras (so I have been told - not sure that it is 100% accurate). I would suggest you hit the Acura dealer at least once a year to make sure all the warranty work is done. I know my dealer services the seatbelts every year under the warranty.
Overall the Acura is a Honda and the Honda mechanics should be more than capable of performing 95% of what you need done. Perhaps there are a few differences (technology) where the Acura dealer has an advantage with know how / experince but the underlying platform is similar to a Pilot (even if we don't want to admit to that). |

I called the honda dealer and they said the samething ie that the pilot and mdx are basically the same vehicle and as such they do maintenance on the mdx. However they do not do warranty work.
Another thing that caught my attention is that the Acura dealer charges $140 for an oil change compared to the Honda dealer which charges $26 with taxes. The Acura dealer said they use synthetic oil.
However reading the manual it does not require synthetic. Plus the acura dealer (a different one) I bought the MDX from said they dont use synthetic in the cars they sell.
I think I will stick with the HOnda maintenance.

| You're lucky. my acura dealer is 125mi away! The nearest Honda dealer is 60 mi away. Took my acura to the honda dealer for 60K service, they charged $150 more than the acura dealer's quote for the same service!! Go figure. They honda dealer did a crappy job too, didn't fill the transmission all the way, (I checked). |

That's correct. A Honda dealer can't even order the parts, nor do they have the parts catalog to access Acura. The only way they're able to do the services is that many of the basic parts interchange. |

| I take my '03 MDX to a local Honda shop for scheduled maintenence and brakes. They do a great job and the costs are less than the Acura dealer for the same service comparable to the Pilot. |
