heated seats. - Click HERE for Original Thread

Ok granted I live in florida so this is really not a big deal.

However it does get cold enough that would make heated seats a nice luxury to have.

For the first time I tried my heated seats and noticed that they did not get warm or just barely warm.

THis is a very subjective questoin, but do your seats get noticably warm or just luke warm?

I also noticed that only one of the driver side lights on the heated seats switch light up. The passenger one does not have on a light.

Any ideas?

My seats get quite warm. I usually only have them on high for a few minutes then move them to low. And then finally turn them off. The passenger side doesn't get as warm as from what I understand has less heating elements as it had to put the airbag sensor in the seat as well. Both switches light up in both high and low settings.

Both seats have a thermostat that regulates temperature in the high mode. It may be that the seat temperature is warm enough (you did say you lived in Florida) to trigger the thermostat. The seat heaters are unregulated in the low mode, although the voltage is supplied at a lower value. Try turning the seat heat to low. In warmer weather you may actually deliver more heat.

BTW-
The driver's seat is heated both in the back and bottom cushions, while only the passenger's seat bottom cushion is heated.

This makes sense about the heating element in the driver's seat.

My driver's seat back only seems to heat, the bottom cushion barely gets warm on either high or low setting. Also it takes forever to heat up.

The funny thing is the passenger's side does get noticeable warmer than the driver's side. Since it's just the bottom cushion I can understand why. It still heats up slowly.

That said this goes against the very idea of heated seats.

Can these be diagnosed somehow to see if there properly working? Can the element wear out, break down?

I live in New England, so it's imperative that these work properly.

I use mine almost 100% of the time in winter. On 'HIGH' it can sometimes get uncomfortably hot. If I wear just a tshirt it can actually start to burn.

Like the earlier posted said, it does modulate in high mode. It'll turn off after a while. When I sense that happening, I usually flip it to Low and it starts heating up again.

My 02's heated seats are notably better than my 07 Infiniti G35S' are

on my passenger side only one side works...do any of you guys know if that is covered under warranty to get fixed. its only the left cheek that gets warm..! so its farely wierd feeling in the winter when only one side gets warm then the other side is still cold.

Yeah that's covered under the warranty, obviously the bumper-to-bumper warranty not a powertrain warranty.

I've recently noticed that the driver's seat is no longer heating on my MDX. The back of the driver's seat still heats. Any ideas of what would cause this? It's a 2003 with 55,000 miles.

Holy smoke! Accidentally read this thread - I have the same problem!! Only the back heats but the seat will not (driver's side). I once left my sunroof open for a major rain storm and the seat got quite wet, so I figured something got burned on the seat, but if yours hasn't happened that way, then perhaps it's something else??? Anyone else, any clues?

By the way, my seats take good 15 mintues before I feel anything through my pants and/or coat. Almost useless. I resorted to a nice thick blanket on my seats for the entire winter. Waiting that long (even on the working passenger side) simply makes no sense, as your butt-heat would warm up the seat faster than the current LOL

I've just got an 04 MDX and had the same problem, on the driver side, it only heat in the back but not on the seat.

Mine is under warranty and the dealer said it could be the heating element went bad and I'll take it to the dealer this weekend have it fixed. I'll let you guys know what's wrong with it once it fixed.

snake07, could you be so kind and come back here when you know what was wrong. It would be very helpful to find out what your dealer determines.

thanks!

Wow me too, I have an 01 with 118k on it, thought it was just old.... anyone had this fixed at the dealer?

Good news for everybody have a problem with heated seat.

I can't wail till sat so I took mine car to the dealer yesterday and they give me a car loan. They did not get it done yesterday.

They just called me 10 mins ago and said it's ready for me to pick up.

They found a bad heating element on my seat and replaced it. From this thread, I can see they all have the same problem with MDX.

Hopefully this help fix all problems with heated seats.

Good luck !

My seat warmers are laughable. Every once in a while you can feel just a bit of a change. Jeeps have the best seat warmers. I talked to my dealer about it and of course, they said they couldnt do anything. My passenger side is a bit better but not much.

My seats work, but not like other cars I have had. My 98 Accord had much more effective seat warmers.

I'm having a problem with my '05 MDX - the drivers seat is getting too warm in the low setting. It's still under warranty (have 46k on it) so I took it to the dealer. They said said everything checked out fine. Kind of irritated me as they didn't seem to want to acknowledge that anything could be wrong - yet I know what I felt (my wife agrees with me as she has noticed it as well). Anybody have this type of problem? Obviously I would prefer the dealer to be right and there not be a problem, but I'm not convinced that there isn't one; and of course I can't get them to fix something that they say is working fine.
