Hi folks
I've read numerous threads (and pages 217 - 22x in the manual) about the formats that the disk changer can read, etc, etc, etc.
Today I tried to burn my WMA library to a DVD-R disk.
Windows Media player created the folder structure (root\music\artist\album), and a WPL (play list) file that it placed in the root.
The disk checks out OK on another PC, but when I try add it to the chager, I get a "Bad Disk - Check Owners's Manual" error.
Any ideas?
Thanks

| I think that the MDX might not be able to handle so many folders. ALso shouldn't the file be a highmat file? |

Problem solved:
I enedd up creating the DVD-R's using a standard burning application (NOT WIndows Media Player 11) - everything worked just fne.
Created 5 discs of about 1000 songs each - no problems.
Format used was WMA files on ISO 9660/Joliet.
THanks for the input. IN general, I would say keep to simple WMA's and MP3's instead of Highmat files / WMP11-generated burns...

Scan through your discs....don't think all your files will be there.
I noticed on a big burn DVD (full 4.7 gigs) that although I went from A-U, I only saw A-M on the screen. At first I saw someone mention a max number of folders, and that made sense. However, reading the manual (good idea as always) reveals the following:
* When playing discs, each disc can support up to a maximum number of 100 folders and each folder can hold 255 playable files.
Strange, because it seems like my audio player is balking at 255 FOLDERS not FILES. However, it also says:
* Each disc can hold up to 400 files in 8 folder layers.
This makes more sense. I would wager that the discs are topping out at 400 files, which would be way short of the disc capacity. |

Hi again
Well, I created 5 DVD-R disks, averaging 900+ files.
I stepped through all 104 (!)folders on my last disk, and played samples from almost every artist and album. The disks are arranged by artist\album\song.
No problems so far.
My confusion was not helped at all by one of the Acura Link messages, talking (literally - it's so cool!) about supported formats, in which it explicitly states that DVD-R is NOT supported! Oh, well...
I'll continue testing, but at the moment I think the limit of 100 folders and 400 files is bogus. Maybe they've updated firmware - how do we tell?
Anyone know hoe to get the radio display to show song information each time a track is playing? It seems like it only does it for the first track you play after changing disk...

I am beginning to think that there is a folder limit, but it is in the 250 folder range. It looks to me like after that, it will not display. I have this problem on two discs.
I have way more than 100 folders on several discs and well over 400 songs on several. Still cleaning up my music to burn a couple of masters.
Press the info button...it will show artist, title, album, track / time. You have to keep pressing the button to cycle through, but whatever you left it to stay on it will do that every time a new track comes on. |

Will this work using DVD-RW ? |

Do you name your folders and if so, does the name show up on the Nav?
What is your burning process? Do you use Itunes at all? We have all our music rated and categorized in Itunes and would hope we can work with that.

WARNING TO ITUNES USERS!
M4P or M4A's will NOT show up on the Acura system, as they are not MP3's or WMA's.
This has been the biggest PITA, in my opinion, and the reason that I don't have all my music turned over. I have quite a few songs that were in iTunes locked format. I had to download a converter and now I have double files all over the place.
But my folders are named, and Acura will show up all the folder names. Very cool. |

Excellent!
My wife has everything in Itunes so she can rate and categorize it. They are 95+% mp3's.
What software do you use for burning DVD's? I think she is burning CD's from Itunes itself, but I don't think there is a DVD option in that route.
The last one she burned for me must have only had one folder as it is labeled "root"
Any help, tips or tricks are appreciated.

My approach has been as follows:
I use Windows Media Player (through Media Center 2005) to build my catalog of disks (in WMA format).
I then use native windows explorer and DVD burning software to create the disks. Windows Media Player has already created the folder structure (Artist\Album\Song) - I just drag and drop into the burning application (I happen to use Cyberlink, but that should not matter).
I record onto DVD-R disks (single layer - have not tried DL yet). I have been averaging about 1,100 files in 120 folders per disk. I own about 400 CD's, reduced onto 5 DVD's - way cool!
Hope that helps.
BTW, in an earlier post someone mentioned the "info" button to see track info. Which "info" button - near the joystick? I can't find any other one, and it does not seem to work...
Thanks |

It's not the Info button but the Disp/Mode button next to the Tune knob that lets you toggle through the various info.
I use the the Iomega Hotburn Pro software that came with my burner to create the directory structure and to drop my files into before starting the burn process. It's nothing fancy but gets the job done. |

.
Yes, that is the one. I mis-spoke myself above (trying to do too much at work!)
I use some random Disc burning software that came free on my Dell...think it's called Sonic. Works fine for me.
As noted above, my music is already categorized in windows, so it's just drag and drop onto the CD. But as I noted, I am having to go through and convert my locked iTunes files to normal MP3 format. Then get rid of the leftover double files. :3: |
