Hi every one,

I'm new to this forum and I've bought an 04 MDX Touring with Nav and entertainment with 43 k miles for $24,900. Anybody think this is a good deal ? the vehicle look clean and flawless to me and I love it a lot.

The vehicle was certified and with 12 months warranty or 63 k miles. The dealer had an extended warranty package with $100 deductable bumper to bumper warranty or 100k miles for $1,380.

Anybody think I should buy this extended warranty ?

Thanks in advice for any input !

If 60K miles of worry-free driving at $1380 is worth it to you, then go for it. Make sure it's an Acura Care warranty though.

Cross-check the warranty price at hondacuraworld.com (one of the sponsors here) so that you don't get killed on the price.

Thank you for your replied.

I think the same way and I also think it's worthy since I have to replace the timing belt at 80k and for the timing belt itself cost $450 plus labor and I aslo might have to replace the water pumb at the same time when replacing the timing belt.

Let me check at hondaccuraword.com and see what's there warranty covered.

Thanks,

Unfortunately, the timing belt and water pump will not be covered under warranty as they are wear and tear items. They are normally replaced at 105K, though.

I think you' re right, I can understand that and if the insurance won't cover replacing those parts then there's no point of buying an extended warranty since I have 12 months warranty from the dealer and I don't think anything going wrong with it before 100 k miles.

Thanks,

the 2004 mdxe I bought had basic acura certified warranty that extended the power train warranty up to 100k or 7 years. I did not need to pay for that (it was in the price) but that was just power train. Then the dealer offered me to extend the bumper to bumper warranty with $0 deductible also to 100k or 7 years for $900 and I took it.

Acura parts are not cheap. It doesnt take a major repair to run over $1000 on an acura.

:welcome: I think its worth the money to spend on the warranty, because you never know what might happen. Sounds like you got a good deal. What dealership you buy from?
snake07
Thanks you for all advice,

I got it from McGrath Acura of Morton Grove and the car was originally advertised for $28,900, the sale guy told me twice, after I comlete making the deal with him and before I left the dealer, the price the dealer paid for the car was $24,831.

I believed what the sales guy told me was reasonable and I also asked him another question before I left the dealer " why would they sell the car if they make less than 100 bucks ? " he explained to me the dealer have to sell the car even if they don't make anything since they can't keep it in their dealer for more than 60 days, in that case they have to pay interest for it.

I got an extended warratny on our 02 for about as much money, but it was only for 2 years. However, the car was much older. Just replacing the motor mount has already paid for half the warranty. I know I'll need new shocks before the warranty is up so it'll have paid for itself.

Acura parts and repairs are not cheap and not readily available like honda parts.

For eg when I bought my MDX, one of the A/C vent tabs was broken. THe dealer I bought the car from agreed to pick up the bill from my local acura dealer who did the repair.

That alone was close to $300.

Nice! I bought mine from there in Sept and also got a deal like that. I love that place. What color was it? Silver? Who did you deal with?
snake07
Mine got silver exterior and gray interior. My sales guy was Keven, he's young about 22 and very nice. He took care me all the way till I left the dealer. Not like some sales guy, as soon as he complete the deal with you then he walk away.

Actually, before I came to that dealer I stopped by Willmete, about 15 min away from Morton Grove, to see a car from an Individual onwer and he's got 05 MDX NAV w/o entertainment with 38k miles. He asked for $27,900 then I offer him $25,500 but he wouldn't take it and he said he wouldn't sale it for less then $27,000.

Back to the extended warranty, at first, I don't think I need it but after I got advice from this thread I think I definitely need a warranty sicne parts for Acura is expensive and the extended warranty will cover for another 7 yrs or 100k miles so it's going to be worthy.

Thanks all,

One thing I want to point out. If it is the acura warranty, its not for "another 7years" Its for 7 years from manufacturering. So with a 2004, you will have like 3 years left unless you reach 100,000 miles before.

Still I think your warranty decision was wise.

Thank you for pointed that out, jasguild.

In the extended warranty paper work, they said it will be covered for 84 months ( 7 yrs) or 100k miles from date of purchase and the extended warranty provided from " THE MECHANICS...." which is the contractor for exteded warranty.

The dealer told me I can have the service done from any Acura dealer for that extended warranty so I don't know this could be considered warranty from Acura ?

Yeah that's a 3rd party warranty which is fine, especially if they allow work done at the dealer. I have a third party as well and haven't had any problems with the dealer.

The only caveat with the third parties is that they usually have deductibles whereas the Acura ones don't.

You must make sure that they dont define "date of purchase" to mean the date of original purchase.

If in fact it is 100k or 7 years from the day you purchase the policy for $1380, that is an excellent deal.

I'll check it out once I get home, jasguild. But I'm sure that's what the paper work said.

This is how it used to be, but recently Acura has changed their warranties. Check with Tim at hondacuraworld but I think you'll see they now go from date of purchase of the warranty itself.
snake07
You are right, jasguild.

I've just looked up the paper work again and the extended warranty covered for 84 months or 100k miles start from the "In Service Date" which happened to my car on "2/5/03" and I got shocked when I saw the in service date.

Eventually, I paid the extended warranty to cover my car for only 1 yr which turned out not cheap at all. The reason why I said the extended warrany cover my car for only 1 yr since w/o extended warranty my car covered for 12 months from the dealer.

I'm planning to cancel this extended warranty and wait till the dealer warranty expired, another 12 months then I'll get extended warranty from Hondacuraworld.

Let me know if that's going to work out for me ??

Thanks,
midnightMDX
Yea it covers from original purchase date. I bought it because I have a 5 year loan. If something were to break, I'd rather have it covered for the next few years.

I think its up to you whether you want to keep the extended warranty. If you have flexibility to cover repairs if something would happen, then it should be fine. These cars are pretty reliable.
