Hey there - I'm not an owner of a new MDX yet, but am looking to be one soon. I ride a road bike and am curious on how others are carrying their bikes in or on the X. Not sure I want to put it on a rack on top since there is a danger to running into things (garage doors, etc). I guess I could lay it down in the back the 2nd row seats down. What are others doing? Thanks!

I have a rack that plugs into the tow hitch. It's a lot easier than tossing the bikes up on the roof, and it saves the cargo area for, well, cargo. If you don't want to throw down the scratch for the OEM towing package, there is at least one aftermarket solution that's a lot cheaper and works just as well. I forget what it's called, but if you do a search you'll find it.

Any idea on if you can stand the bike up in the rear with the front tire off and the front forks mounted into a quick release holder? Not sure if there would be enough room to stand the bike up in the back since the seat might hit the ceiling. Curious on if anyone else has tried this successfully (or unsuccessfully).

I also have a rack that fits into the a tow hitch. Holds two bikes.

Check out the forums for info on the aftermarket Valley Hitch.

I bought a Saris Thelma 2 rack and love it.

That's how i used to carry my road and mtn bikes in 1st Gen MDX--inside the vehicle using fork mounts strategically placed on a piece of wood (so that it was easily taken in/out). However, i found that setup would not work with this current generation--even if you modify saddle and/or bars.

Therefore, went to the hitch mount and couldn't be happier! I'm too short to use roof rack mounted gear! I save the roof for the Yakima Skybox Pro and/or ski rack (depends on my mood and the amount of passengers).

Best of luck

For quick transport of my bike, I usually fold down the second row seats, throw a plastic tarp down to protect the carpeting, and put the bike in through the tailgate. There's so much room back there I don't even have to take the wheels off the bike.:4:

Thanks everyone - sounds like there's plenty of room in the back to lay it in there (even with both wheels on) - and I like the idea of having the hitch.

I leave the second row up and take the front wheel off. It goes in back wheel on the right with handlebar turned.

I have an old blanket underneath it. Seems to work OK.
