Ok, by now someone must have figured out how and what size of studded snow tire fits an MDX.
I have seen steel wheels with mounted studded snow tires on MDX's here in Tahoe but didn't record the size or ask the owner. All I remember is that the wheel size was 16in. I'm guessing they came from a Honda Pilot or oddessy??? Anyone know what steel wheel and studded tire combo works for the MDX? |

Replying to myself here:
After extensive searching I finally found a great STUDDED winter tire for the MDX. It is the OEM size 235-65-R17 called the Tempra "Winterquest" made by Cooper Tire. Very aggressive tread with each lug featuring multiple ice sipes and studded along each inner and outer edge plus everyother lug inside the inner and outer edges.
Tried it out in our last sierra storm with over 4 ft of snow. It pulled so well that I pushed snow over the hood.

| I guess if I lived in Tahoe I'd consider studded snows. But living down in the Bay Area and driving to Tahoe every weekend, that's not a practical option. I love just having good snows that I bought mounted on alloy wheels from Tirerack.com. Right now I have Dunlops and they're doing well - on their third season. They'll still have good tread by the end of this season, but some of the sipes will have worn down so I'll probably drive them over the summer then replace them next winter. Soft compound rubber and lots of sipes make all the difference in snow and ice. I even towed a small Toyota up Juniper Mtn Rd (off Alpine access road) last storm - no problem. Studded snows do last longer, but they make so much noise it would drive me crazy on the freeway coming home. |
