| Just bought a 08 mdx base and will be towing a boat and trailer combined wieght of 3300lbs. The valley hitch sounds good and uhaul can install it with the wiring for $394. The dealer wants $1053. What's the diffence in hitches? More bolts? Better wring harness? I know dealers rip people off on options but don't want to make a mistake on uhaul installing tne valley hitch. Any comments would be much appreciated . Thanks. |

IMO, the only advantages to the dealer-installed OEM hitch are that it's covered under warranty, it's better integrated into the X by virtue of its different bumper cover, and it has enough clearance to use a full-size spare. Other than that, the Hidden Hitch (EDIT: I meant to say "Valley Hitch" -- not sure if the Hidden Hitch works with the MDX) is just as robust and uses the exact same number of bolts to secure itself to the X's frame.

Has anyone installed (other than craniotes' hidden hitch brand) an after market hitch that will have enough clearance for the full size spare tire? I'll be receiving my full size spare in a few days....
Hey bayou1312
You could probably save some $ if you just bolt the hitch yourself, and let U-HAUL do the wiring. OR - I just checked with my local Acura, they are charging $204 for the wiring labor provided that you have an OEM wire harness. This way, if you'll have any wiring/ electrical problems later on, the dealer can't blame it on your OEM dealer installed add-on!! 'guess you can call it an insurance for a couple of hundred bucks! Oh by the way, dealer won't install after market hitch or any non-OEM accessories.
Good luck! |

| Thanks Craniotes and gotMDX for taking the time to reply to my post.....your comments are very helpful.....and decided to go with uhaul installing the valley hitch and wiring. the guy behind their service counter strongly urged me not to pay the dealer $1,000 to do it citing that the valley hitch is basically the same as what they install and added that it is rated for 4,000 lbs towing and 400 lbs tongue weight, which is sufficient for towing my boat. Will have it installed after Jan 1 and will post how it turns out. Again thanks and Merry Xmas and Happy New Year...!!! , |

| I just purchased a 2007 MDX with the Tech/Enter package. I need to install the hitch because I am an avid Mountain Biker and need it for my Thule T2, highly recommend it to everyone since I have had a bike fall off another rack. I have been following all the posts and have also called around and found that UHAUL is definitely the cheapest. It seems that the Valley hitch works the best. There are pictures on other posts showing it installed. |
