Had the 15K service performed today - $307.
Also had the Thud addressed - they put in the silencers (installing coil insulators) and that seems to have done the trick. They did not need to do any shaving or other remedies in addition to the coil insulator. They did indicate that the left side had the coil insulator all the way up installed at the factory, but not the right side. I guess somebody on the line just missed it or went on a coffee break.

| Had that done to mine too at 3K service. The suspension feels kinda stiff after the fix, does this happen to anybody who have the "thud" fixed? |

| 15k - $307, what did they do for $307? |
|

| Yes, inquiring minds want to know - particularly since I'm at 17K... |

| Oooo.. There's a penalty for missing the 15k.... $1 per mile... so your bill will be $2307.... :) |

Mesa, et al...
Those silencers aparently do the job - about 75% of the time. As you may remember, ACS dispatch a rep to AoB about a month ago to witness my die-hard thud. Alas, to no avail. The car refused to sing... Even my "test" street that used to be 100% thud-guaranteed, did not work.
I was genuinely upset for not being able to reproduce that sound. Not because I "loved" it sooo much I could not live without it.
Those 25% of the time I still hear it!!! Happens usually at higher speeds, so speed bumps are out of the question - I do not want to "kill" my tires and suspension, you know. The biggest culprit now is a "domed" intersection. Going 30+ mph often produces the sound.
Some time ago, when the first reports of silencers and/or coil "shaving" surfaced, there was a common notion that the thud is fixed, unless the car is pushed to the level that "any car would make sounds..." Well, since I drove down the SAME streets of NYC in at least 3 other cars and my driving habits did not change that much over the years, I begin to disagree with that notion.
I start hearing thud more often now (about 2-3 months after the silencers were installed) I am yet to go to my "test" street, and if I succeed in resurecting the noise and reproducing it on a regular basis, ACS and AoB will surely hear from me again.
Do not get me wrong!!! i am not doing it just for fun! :( Also, after everything BellTeck was throught with his car, I pretty much gave up on the idea of Lemon action (unless they offer it themselves ;)) I strongly believe that NO new vehicle should sound like a tow truck hitting a pothole! |

Oil & Filter change, rotate tire, replace vtm fluid, 4 wheel alignment, adjusted belts and parking brake, replaced a couple of washers and a muffler gasket.
Parts = $54
Labor = $253
In other words - a costly visit!! |

| God, that labor will kill you.... Always makes me wonder if I should ask to watch them do the work..... see how long it really takes. |

Just out of curiousity, what is the per-hour labor rate at your dealership? Of course my dealership is above Acura's claimed "average." I think my dealership is about $71/hour but it may have gone up since we last asked. |

... make me even happier that I bought at John Eagle Acura.
Free factory recommended maintenance for 2 years/24K miles. With all the "bad" dealers out there we have been requested to promote the good ones.
John Eagle does this for all their sales, TL-S included;) |

I'm thinking it's $115/hour. |

| Yep, $115 per hour for Acura in the SF South Bay. I just got my oil & filter change today at a special price of $29.95 including a full car wash and dressing :D:D When asked about the 15K service, they said that the dealer recommended service menu is much more than the minimum required by Acura (which is just oil/filter and VTM fluid). Their includes a host of check like all fluid leakage check, belt tensions, brake check, balance and rotate tires, power train check, transmission check, cooling system check, and the full car wash of course. It will take about 2 hour and by appointment only (aka no loaner).I forgot to ask for the price, but as some one already mentioned a few months ago, it was $270. I knew some of you may complain about such a high cost visit, but I experience similar or higher maintenance service cost with my Toyota and Chrysler (dare not to say the BMW and MB). BTW, the free maintenance at MB and some BMW includes only the minimum required. Dealer used to recommend additional service which runs for a few hundred bucks. In fact I was told so when I was considering buying the MB E320. I think the additional service is more of additional insurance (peace of mind) or to ensure longetivity to the life of the car. |

I took my MDX in for the thud fix about two months ago. My thud was characterized by the "Thunk", per service bulletin 01-123. I was very upset about the whole thing, as I have read the posts that say that the "fixes" don't work. Plus, my MDX was built in June 2001. I had hoped they would have put some fixes on the assembly line.
Anyway, the scope of work was to torque the lower arm mounting bolt on the front suspension and install the "Sprint Silencer Tubes", PN 52442-S0x-A01.
I am relieved to report a silent ride! |

| my "thud" on my two weeks old X appears when I slow down and stop at a stop sign, and then there is a "thud" from the back when I start moving forward - does anyone recognize that sound? Would it be fixed by the TSB posted? |

Sven,
If you're hearing "thuds" from the rear end, then it sounds like you're describing the gas-tank sloshing rather than a metal-on-metal thud (which I believe was addressed in production for cars manufactured when yours was. The gas tank slosh is a feature. No fix.
You might also check the storage of the rear headrests in the rear cargo compartment -- they also can make that noise if they're not pushed into the holding slots all the way. |

... had the "thud" silencer issue fixed successfully - so, no more popping sound when going over significant bumps or coming out of deep dips. The re-torque that was supposed to fix the "thud" which I describe as a cracking sound when braking hard did not do it.
I actually think that the gas tank noise which is ever present whien stopping, accelerating and sometimes turning is the worst. It sometimes leaves me wondering if I perhaps hit something or someone hit me. That it is considered by Honda to be a feature of a $35-40K car "luxury" car is, to me, a significant issue. |

Hi Sun Tan,
I just have the silencer tube installed in my 'DX and the suspension is stiffer now than before. I do not know if it will be a little softer later or not. But definitely stiffer now. |

| Bad squeking up and down noise, at right rear every time mdx bounce up and down: Sounds like a 10 year old rusty shock! on 4 week old MDX! Dealer said rt-rear shock/strut is blown out and ordered new one: We'll see: puttin it in on monday: any body else have the same problem?? |

I just had the third part of the service bulletin completed(replaced both struts) and the thud is gone, hopefully gone forever.
