Steering Wheel Resistance - Click HERE for Original Thread

I love the small U turning radius of the MDX and it is even better than by a couple of feet, over the VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7.

However, I have noticed that on sharp right turns, the wheel offers quite a bit of resistance, and my wife (Infiniti sedan driver) particularly says its hard to pull. She never said this about the Pathfinder, Touareg etc...

It slides back out of the curve beautifully - but making the turn is tough.

Anyone have any insights into this...has this been discussed?

What is your current tire pressure reading?

Power steering boost does decrease substantially as you go faster. This is a "feature, not a bug". It gives you more steering feel at cruising speeds.
But I'm assuming if you're taking "sharp" right turns, you're not going very fast. Or are you being fooled by the great suspension?

Never had an issue with this, and beleive me, I whip into spaces in this car.

The Volvo has the turning radius of the USS Enterprise. This car is a dream in comparison.

The starship or the aircraft carrier? :D

I actually find the X very car-like and have surprised people (myself included) on the small turning radius. The steering isn't very resistive at all.

Gee, don't get me started. Here's the thread about my saga (bitter complaints, many service appointments, my MDX in the shop more than I had it in my garage, and eventually resolution by swapping out the entire steering chassis with a loaner that steered decent). I was ready to sell the car, take a huge financial hit, because it was so aggravating.

It was primarily bad at speeds less than 5mph (like backing out of a driveway or parking in lots).

Basically, steering stiffness is INCREDIBLY variable from MDX to MDX (I drove at least 8-10 several along with the service manager). Acura has a real quality control and manufacturing/design problem here.

I STILL can't "whip" into ANYWHERE, it drives like a truck and NOT a car, but it's a thousand times better than it was.

Geritol and the gym will solve those steering problems :2:

I too am amazed at the turning radius of the MDX. Its better than my 04 Maxima. I too dont find the steering very stiff. But I drove my friend's camry and the steering was VERY light. Im guessing its true with all toyotas.

I think most Toyotas (and Lexi(?)) give you that disconnected feeling from the road. I prefer the Acura/Honda feel much more. YMMV.

My tires are at 32 PSI.

I love the turning radius - as I said before.

It is the low-speed sharp turns that give resistance.

Will wait and watch.
