I dropped off my 07 X to get the whistle fix and they gave me a 2008 loaner. Wow, 2008 X has absolutely no whistle. 60, 70, 80, MPH and NO WHISTLE.

The 2008 model has a nicer finish with the steering wheel. My 07 steering wheel has a plastic piece that is The auto dimming mirror is a very nice feature. I also like the new 2007 Zagat ratings. The Zagat ratings in 2007 has better descriptions than the 2006. One odd thing was in reverse, the driver side mirror goes down not the passenger side mirror. My 07 X, the passenger side goes down and not the driver side.

Which side mirror goes down for you when you have it in reverse? Driver, Passenger, or both?
tomertl
It depends on whether you have the mirror adjustment set to driver or passenger on the 07 or 08. The ONLY difference with the 08 is the standard auto day night mirror. I actually prefer not to have this feature.

How do you set the side mirror? What I wanted to say is that the steering wheel is different. The 2007 has a grey plastic piece that wraps to the back that is sharp at the back side. The 2008 model steering wheel has more leather wrap and it tucks in around the plastic piece so no sharp edges.

There is a slider switch which slides to left, center or right when you need to adjust the side mirrors. Just slide the switch to the right side, leave it there and when you put in reverse, the right side mirror will tilt down. If you leave the switch in the middle both side mirrors will NOT tilt down. Slide the switch to the left and that side will tilt down in reverse.

I recently had the whistling fixed on my 07 as well...also got an 08 loaner and noticed the lack of whistling. I noticed the autodimming mirror, but didn't realize any change with the steering wheel. The lack of an autodimming mirror doesn't bother me due to the tinted glass. I like how in my dad's Audi Q7, you can actually see the outer mirrors darken up when you active the autodim feature....kinda cool!

The mirror tilts depending on where you leave the selector: Driver = Driver side tilt, Middle = No tilt, Passenger = Passenger side tilt.

My '07 has no whistle. And yes, I notice these things.

I have never noticed a whistle? How and when should I go about identifying this sound?

Simple. Hit the air recirculation button when you're driving over 70mph.

Maybe I got lucky, but my 2008 has no whistles, no thumps or other strange noises. It was built in October of this year. I am very satisfied with the quality and build of this car.

What I am disappointed in is the GPS system. Acura should partner with Garmin instead of Alpine when it comes to GPS and BlueTooth software. The POI data base is very limited, not to mention that the directions in complex traffic areas is weak. When travelling into unknown areas, a Garmin GPS is coming with me. I do love the navigation screen, but the software and storage hardware are less than state of the art.

Every vehicle has its strengths and weaknesses. My MDX is mechanically perfect. The engine, transmisson and drivetrain are as good as it gets. The leather interior is better than most luxury SUVs in this category. The body pannels are perfectly alligned. Accesories are installed with perfect allignement.

But why or why did they go with second rate GPS and BlueTooth software? One can only hope that they will update the software to make this system competitive.

Can I ask you if you've used other OEM navigation systems? I have used several...MB, BMW, Nissan, Volvo, Mazda and now Acura. IMO, Acura is one of the better systems out there. The number of POI's is outstanding for a factory system. I agree with the routing of complex turns, my Volvo is a bit better in this regard.

You simply cannot compare the aftermarket systems with the factory installed ones. The aftermarket systems can be updated very very frequently as they are manufactured. OEM systems do not have this flexibility.

In the end, factory systems are not worth the $$ compared with the stand alone units. They are 2-4 times as expensive and hard / costly to update. However, they have security (theft) and convenience that the stand alones cannot match. Whether that's worth it to you is a matter of personal preference.

Took the X on a 400 mile all highway run today ...no whistling noise at all from all speeds up to 85mph. Maybe this issue shows up more in the earlier 07s :8: but this 07 is quiet :) :29:

That's it? Just hit the recycler air button on the climate control and there should be a whistling sound coming from the engine? or the air vents?
craniotes
It comes from the air vents. This problem has been reported in both '07s and '08s. If has been fixed in recent model runs, terrific -- that means that a TSB should be in the works for the rest of us.

I'm loving the 08 loaner. It's nice and quiet. Still no whistle. I've been putting in reg unleaded. NO difference! No noticeable decrease in performance and no knocking noise.

Very interesting... How long have you had the loaner for, and how many tanks have you filled up with regular?

I filled up the tank twice and had the loaner for over a week. No difference with regular unleaded. I'm going to switch to regular when I get my car back.

I'm not sure that I'm quite ready to take that step yet, but please keep us updated with your progress.

Nowadays, every little bit counts...

What type of driving conditions have you been using it in? Probably nothing taxing, and the ECU is simply cutting power / retarding timing to compensate for your tomfoolery. Most modern ECU's can without any damage, but at the cost of performance. If you were driving in hotter weather, I wouldn't be surprised to see that you'd complain it was sluggish and possibly pinging.
