I feel your pain, I have 118k on mine, I've test driven:
Subaru Tribeca
Mazda cx9
Acura MDX (SPORT)
Honda Pilot
I didn't consider anything German or American as they don't qualify for me.
I wasn't overly impressed by any of them.... don't get me wrong, they are all beautiful in their own way, and I could own them (any one) of them. But honestly they didn't do any one thing so much better than my truck! I mean this is a really hard truck to replace....
Has anyone else had this feeling....?
I feel all the new stuff is beautiful but not as functional... I mean the 1st gen MDX is not exactly "sexy" but damn if its not the most functional machine on the road. It fits a load of stuff, hauls a bunch of normal sized people and all things considered gas mileage is great. Plus everything stll works perfect baring a few trivial things in mine... I could fix them, but it doen't bother me too much.
this sucks.... I want something new but can't bring myself to buy it! |

My g/f thinks the MDX is too big and wants to downsize so we're keeping our eyes open. We also drive 65 miles per day for our commute to work so economy is more important than ever.
Right now our top options are:
Toyota Rav4 Limited V6 4x4
Used Lexus RX400H AWD
The problem with all of that is the Toyota will feel like a downgrade and the Lexus is still nearly $40k used and I don't know how long hybrids will really last.
I like the Escape and new Vue but my g/f doesn't want to buy an American car (she's quite patriotic, LOL).
I REALLY wanted the RDX but it is SOOOO small and gets worse gas mileage it seems than our MDX.
In 18 months we'll decide what we want to do. For us it's the 105k service in around 18 months that'll be the factor. If we get it done, we'll drive it for a couple more years, or we'll replace it before the costly service. |

If it is good shape and still runs well, I would hold off until you find a car that you HAVE to have. Until then, it sounds like your MDX has served you well and continues to do so.
No sense in getting into something that you regret later and wishing you had waited. Sooner or later, something will catch your eye. |

Know whats really cool.... hard to beleive but drive a Hyundai Santa Fe ... its solid as hell and affordable. Over the past 5 years that companys stuff has blown my mind.
I owned a 04 Tib 6spd with a Supercharge my company produces... it made 320 Wheel HP on the stock block and trans. Then my Brother in law replaced his worn 98 Camry with a Elantra and his fathers gas guzzling 4 Runner with a Santa Fe. 3 years later they still run strong with no rattles and/or signs of wear.
I'm waiting to see the reports on the Vera Cruise (?) I forgot I drove it and was very impressed. The interior is beautiful and the build quality was top notch! |
