After a couple of weeks of doing research, I've finally decided on my next vehicle... a loaded (touring?) 2004 Acura MDX (prefer white with NAV). I've always purchased used cars and have had quite a bit of luck.
I'm currently driving a 1994 Mercedes E420, but I think I'm done with Rear-wheeled drive vehicles (especially up here in the mid-west). The car has been great and still looks great for its age.
Can someone tell me a list of things that I should look at carefully when shopping for this particular vehicle? What options are available?
Thanks in advance! |

I have a 2004. I cannot think of anything about this year MDX to caution you about. I have had no problems. The transmission problems of the 01 and 02 were corrected by 04. It handles nicely and rides very well. Fit and finish seem good.
The third row seat is virtually useless for anyone older than 5 or 6. However that you can see when you try the vehicle. Doesn't bother me because I never use it for anything. There are limitations with the roof rack because the cross bars are not adjustable. Even though there is 48" between the wheel wells inside the vehicle the rear hatch will not accomodate a 48" wide sheet of plywood. However, this will not matter unless you are a do it yourselfer.
It is not a large SUV if that is what you are looking for. It is probably best described as a small, mid size. As a hauler for 4 people and their luggage it does very well. Fuel economy is probably about average for a SUV.
Find a low mileage MDX, treat it well and it will serve you for many years.

If your budget can handle it, you might try looking for a 2005. That way there will be some warranty left, and you have sufficient time (over a year) to assess for yourself whether purchasing an extended warranty is warranted.
The dealer told me the warranty on 2004s were extended a few months as a result of a class action lawsuit, so you've got a little extra beyond the original 48 months of bumper-to-bumper warranty if you buy a 2004. |

| And wasn't 2005 the year XM was introduced? When was BlueTooth integrated? |

Sure... but I have a certain budget I'm willing to spend on a USED car.
There is a point where it's not worth buying used if you're spending too much. |

I've just got 04 MDX w/ Nav and RES for a week and I like it a lot. The only diffrerence between 04 and 05 is Onstar and Bluetooth, those were 1st introduced in 05 for MDX.
I think I'm in the same boat with you , statman24 . I've always purchased used car and it's worthy to me. I got mine with certified and 12 months extended warranty.
Good luck ! |

Mileage was little over 35000 miles.
Great car ~ better than Lexus RX :) |

Yea.... still keeping an eye out for deals on an MDX. I have not driven one yet, but I assume it's not too different (drive-wise) than the Honda Pilots I've driven.
I know it's a different monster, but I'm starting to lean towards a Toyota 4runner. |
