I searched to see if this was already posted, but couldn't find it. Apologies if this is a repeat.
I just purchased a 2003 MDX and the rear tailgate won't stay up when you open it.
It slinks a few inches down after it is opened. One time it shut all the way. May not seem like much, but it's enough for me to hit my head nearly every time.
Any way to tighten the shocks, etc., or do I need to take this to a dealer?
Thanks!!! |

Most likely the shocks are worn out..
Replace those and will be okay.. |

Turbored is correct. Replacement of the struts is the only option.

Can I replace the shocks myself, or will that require a dealer visit? I'm pretty handy... Didn't know if this would be involved / require special tools and such.
Thanks bunches! |

| I never tried on MDX but I changed Hood and trunk shocks/struts on Lexus before and it wasn't hard.. |

Cool. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Just need to find the shocks at this point... Good supplier out there for that? The links on the forum just point to add-ons rather than replacement parts from what I see. Guess I can always check with my dealer.
Thanks again. |

| Replacement is fairly straight forward. Unless you have some type of warranty on it from where you bought it. I would try that route first, if possible. |

Just pop it open with pole, 2x4 or something like that.

2x4 really comes handy..especially there is no one to help you..
ie..wife is busy shopping.. ;)

do one at a time.. |

Installed, Done, Perfection!
That had to be the easiest job I've ever had. The struts just pop right off and on with very little effort.
Took more time cutting the board to length on my miter saw, if that tells you how easy this one was!
Thanks for the suggestions, help, and laughs :) |
