I am in need of some new wipers, and I was wondering if there are any advantages/disadvantages of replacing the whole wiper. Mine still look good, they just need the new rubber. What would ya'll do in this situation? I know the economic side would say just the rubber. Is there ever any problem with doing just that?
Thanks for the help! |

| I usually replace the whole thing (except for the rear wiper). For me it is just easier that way. Inserts are fine too but they just require more work. |

| I replace the whole thing. If you dont mind taking the time to just replace the rubber, than theres nothing wrong with that. |

| Never replaced the whole thing. Just replace the inserts. I believe it's a little bit cheaper. And I don't want to waste the metal parts since there is nothing wrong with it. |

| Some of the arms are more lighter and aerodynamic. I bought some RainX Latitudes and the arm design and rubber are amazing. Again, nothing wrong with going with just the rubber, if its a cost issue. I use to get $2 Pylon arms from Walmart, but they wouldnt last long. And werent that great in severe weather. If you buy a more expensive arm, it will last longer and perform better. Our weather is more brutal here in Chicago. Last week was like 10 degrees, and today it was almost 60 and by the weekend back to the 30's. |

| I'm a greenie, I'll admit it. I can't bring myself to throw an entire wiper blade in the trash every season. I'll replace just the inserts as long as the rest of the wiper lasts. On my daily driver I have Bosch Icons, but I kept the original wipers and will put them back on after rainy season so I won't have to replace the Icons every season. |

| I went ahead and just got the arms. I thought I had remembered it being more expensive, but once a year, $25 won't hurt. Thanks for the input. |

There are some after market wipers out there that are MUCH better than the OEM. The RainX Latitude, already mentioned and the Ichon are two of these. Not only do these have better "rubber" than OEM, they have a "beam" instead of the conventional multiple bearing points.
Yes, they certainly do cost more, however, they are worth the difference.

On the front I replace the whole thing. I agree the after market blades are much better and much easier to install.
On the back I replaced just the rubber, but I had the dealer do it while I was having my heated seat fixed... they only charged me the $8 for the rubber insert. |

| Just the inserts. Took maybe 2 min per wiper. |

Just the rubber - both front and back.
Got them from Tim.
Change them once a year.
Takes less than 5 minutes to do all 3.
