During the Big Storm that hit the SF Bay Area this weekend, I hit a chunk of black plastic the size of a bucket; could have been a battery cover or plant pot. It went underneath my 04 Touring and made a loud thud, then nothing else. I could not tell if it clear or not because of the rain and trafficl.

After exiting the freeway, I stopped at a signal and then started accelerating on the green light. There was a loud screeching noise that started on acceleration and then stopped when I reached 20-25 mph. This happened at every stop. I got home and took a quick look undenneath but did not see anything hanging down.

Finally got a break in the weather and jacked up my MDX. There are two steel bands that loop underneath the front to rear drive shaft. The forward band was making contact with the drive shaft and it scraped a ring around the drive shaft. I took a hammer and got the steel band back into a rounded shape and away from the drive shaft. A short drive later confirmed that was the cause.

I am guessing from a stop as the MDX accelerates, the screeching was due to the MDX being in AWD mode until it reached around 20mph. Above this speed it goes into FWD.

Finally had a chance to shoot a photo.

Note scratched rings around the drive shaft.
