I am the original owner of a '02 MDX with 72k miles. The Trans failed and they told me the repairs would cost 4k+. will know for sure tomorrow. Being a single Mom and all, I was in SHOCK ... until I found this site and saw that there is a problem with these models. I have always taken it to the dealer for servicing and everything to make sure they catch any thing that might be wrong. Any suggestions fellows? I want realibility and dependentability, should I get rid of it asap?

what do you think it is worth with a dead tranny? Nada. They have been pretty arbitrary on how they support owners. Some get all labor, some all parts, some all of everything. Who knows what you'll get. Given they have serviced the vehicle that is in your favor but doesn't guarantee ANYTHING, as you've probably garnered from reading previous posts. When you go in make sure you make a case with the Service Mgr and have them contact Acura in your behalf. If they are a reputable dealer, if there is such a thing, they should help you. Don't get mad at them because it won't help you. Just appeal to them as a devoted customer and you have a vehicle with a well recognized problem. Did you have the recall done? If you didn't they might go 100% on the repair. If you did it will be touch and go. You're stuck right now and hoping to get the best from them. My fingers are X'd for you. Please let us know what happens because there are a lot on this board in the same predicament, they just don't know it yet. My son got 20% on his 2003 Accord and it still cost $2800. GOOD LUCK!!! Try to get out of there with a 3 year/36K mile warranty NO MATTER WHAT!

I have an '02 MDX Touring. I have 92,600 on the odometer right now. I get a weird grinding/rattling from the transmission when driving. It doesn't affect the shifting and the car runs great. I have no idea what it is.

...that you bring it into the dealer for a diagnostic check. Even if nothing is found you have generated a paper trail on the problem should it fail later. Most auto trannys don't make grinding noises so something is going on in there whether it runs good or not. When was the last time you had the fluid changed? Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK!!
