Just bought an '02 MDX, 60k miles. Engine light came on, had it checked at Autozone and they told me it was some type of tranny code and that I should get it to a garage. I got a one year warranty with the purchase, so I'm really not worried, especially since I traded in a BMW that was going to need a $6000 tranny replacement. Anyways, I called the local Acura service department and told them what code it was, and they told me they couldn't get me in for almost a week, but that it was okay to drive with the engine light on, as long as the engine light wasn't flashing. How true is this?

By the way, its the only local Acura dealer. If I take it somewhere else, does it matter where? Like, should I take it to a Honda dealer before I take it to a Toyota or Mazda dealer? Or do Honda techs know as much about an Acura as Mazda tech would?

Do you feel any change in driveability? Has the tranny been slipping? '

You can have Honda look at it, but I'd rather have Acura do the job. A Mazda or Toyota tech will not be specifically trained in Acura products.

what is the code ?

Ehh, not really a slip. Hard shift every once in a while.

Anyways, I remembered that there was another acura dealer close by and took it there. Guess what.......................new tranny. $3500. Warranty should cover though.

HMMMM, have them put it in writing that it is indeed ok to drive it with the light on(code:tranny problem). you'll never know, dealer might tell you later that the warranty is void due to you continually driving the X despite of the "code". i'll call another acura dealer and see if they will say the same thing. w/ warranty issues, i'll stick with an acura dealer. good luck!
