Is there any reason I can't replace the brake rotors myself. The acura dealer said that replacing all 4 is gonna cost about $700. Sounds a little steep since aftermarket rotors are much less.

That is a question only you can answer, depending on your mechanical abilities.

If you know how to, do it yourself. Dealer always charge high labor prices.

Heres an excellent resource on the pads, rotors shouldnt be that hard.

If your comfortable replacing your own brakes, rotors should be a snap. It's only a few extra steps and some gentle persuasion to remove the old ones.

You better do some research before buying any after market rotors.

Please consider the over 2 ton vehicle that might need to stop fast and then ask yourself if it's worth saving some money at the expense of getting injured.

Some are real junk and will rust real bad within 6 months, others are thinner then the originals.

Also, please do not get tempted with drilled rotors as they are prone to heat cracks, specially the cheap ones.

Some others are pretty good.

I had problems on my 2005 TL with the rear rotors that were rusting real bad to the point that the dealer replaced them along with the pads @ 20,000 miles. The problem happened again at 35,000 miles.

I got fed up and bought some slotted rotors from a company called Racing Brakes along with Hawk performance Ceramic Pads and installed them July 2007. The braking performance is lot better then the original rotors and pads and the rotors are rust free even with all the road salts they are using up here.

+1 Sticking with OEM is always safest . Tim and some of the other on-line Acura dealerships will give very fair prices on OEM rotors. If you do go aftermarket, stick with some of the bigger name brands Brembo/Zimmerman...also definitely don't go for the lowest price(metalergy is a science, and there are some foreign knock off rotors that will definilty not stand up). Also, I agree that you should stay away from slotted/cross drilled rotors. Unless you go very high end on these, they are more trouble then they are worth for just the aesthetics.
