I'm considering installing a tow hitch onto my '06. I've seen some posts about people adding this after market.
I would only use this to attach a bike rack. I won't be towing anything. Does anyone see any issues with not installing the power steering and ATF coolers? Am I being too cautious to worry about this?
I'm planning on installing this myself. Does anyone have any advice for me on this as well?
Thanks. |

A simple search using "tow hitch" yielded these threads including yours. A few of them address your issues.
I'll give you a break: No, using an aftermarket hitch just for bikes shouldn't be an issue, unless some unforeseen problem happens with your transmission and your dealer decides to be an ass and blames it on your lack of coolers. You may not be able to fit a full size spare though if it's not OEM, as has happened on some 07's but may not be an issue for 06. |

Thanks dj-mdx2. I ended up finding a OEM hitch on eBay ($140) and I'll try to install it myself. Much cheaper than the $300 from the dealer.
I spoke to the dealer prior to purchasing it and asked about any warranty concerns. I told him that I would only use it for the bike rack and if I was to experience any transmission problems would I still be covered. He said it shouldn't be a problem, just tell them that I didn't tow anything and only used it to attach the bike rack. Seems easy enough. If something happens, we'll see just how easy they are to deal with. |
