can someone help answer some questions I have? I have a s2000 and have a few oil filters left. It will be time for me to do my first oil change on my X and was wondering if I can use the filters I use for the s2k?
I know they are different part numbers but they look identical in size. I even called a few dealers and some say I can use it, others don't recomend it.
So I'm asking for those that have used it, was your vehicle ok with it?
I want to use this filter because I feel it's a much better made filter and has more pluses than negatives. |

| IMHO, not worth lunching an engine over. Trade them for the correct ones, try a dealer or sell to a local S2K owner. |

| agreed, you probably won't find someone who has done this. sell to a local S2000 owner, i'm sure that won't be a problem at all. |

No, not the same filters.
S2000 uses Mobil 1 M1-104.
MDX uses Mobil 1 M1-110. |

| thanks for all your input. just thought of asking since my ridgeline has the same part number for the oil filter as the MDX and other ridgeline owners have used the s2k filters on their ridge. I will play it safe and use the right filter. |

| There's no problem using the S2000 filter. In fact, ever since Honda switched to Fram for their "regular" (A02) filters, a lot of people have been spending extra money for the S2000 filter made by Toyo Roki. |

While we are on the subject of oil filters may I hijack this thread and ask a filter question?
I am trying to find a cross reference that will allow me to take a MerCruiser oil filter part number and find a Mobile filter, or actually any other filter. Once I can get into automobile filter numbers I can cross reference any others.
My boat has twin 350 MPI Magnuns. This is a small block GM engine putting out 350 horse power. I have thought of taking off a filter and putting in a plastic bag and going to an auto parts place, but that is really messy.
Any ideas?
Thanks?

Go to the Purolator website:
http://www.pureoil.com/
Click on the vehicle application tab on top. Next click on the interchange catalog.
Enter your mercruiser part number(ie:14957).
You will get a purolator part number and that can be cross-referenced into almost any other brand.

Then why do they come up as two different filters in just about every brand out there? |

Don't see any logical reason as not to be able to use other filters (interchangable) for your MDX. I also have over 10 Fram filters from my '91 CRX. (wow, I did stock them for over 16 years... bad habit of buying bulk).
The thing is, they don't fit for my MDX. The size is identical but the thread is not. So for now those filters are sitting nicely in a corner collecting dust. :2: |

Where can one buy Toyo Roki here in the states ? I inquired with NO luck ! My 04 RL came with that brand and I've never been able to obtain them here in the US....... |

RandyB. Thanks for the suggestion. I had already triel Pure and could not get a cross from the MerCruiser number.
However, a phone call to Mobil today solved the problem.
Have a good day.

Because they are different filters? Honda has higher specifications for the S2000 filter. If you take a look at the WIX website, the thread size, thread pitch, gasket diameter, gasket thickness, nominal micron rating, and bypass valve PSI are all identical. Just because they have different part numbers does not mean they are not interchangeable. |

Is the RL built in Japan? All imports will come with a Toyo Roki as that is what Honda uses there. The S2000 filter is imported as well which is why Toyo Roki makes them. Filtech is a subsidiary of Toyo Roki and used to make Honda filters here under the A01 part number, but Honda switched to Fram (A02) right around 2002/2003. So unless your local dealership still has an old box of A01 filters lying around, which is doubtful because there are quite a few "A01 hunters" out there buying up all the old stock, you'll have to spend extra money for an S2000 filter or just buy aftermarket. You can't really go wrong with a filter like WIX (NAPA) or Purolator. |
