Is there a site that gives reviews on DVD-A's?
I have this new MDX and would like to have at least one good disc for this surround sound system, besides the demo.........
I did find one disc that I would like to purchase, but found a couple remarks that said "don't waste your money"....
Does anyone have any suggestions on what they have purchased or know a web site where I can find selections with reviews on each disc?
Thanks for the help......... |

| have you tried a search on google? I have ordered a few from an online store but that was a few years back I can't recall the sites name. A couple off the top of my head is the Blue Man Group and Seal. |

| A google search will find a limited selection but the dvd audio is worth the trouble. I have the Eagles and Diana Krall in now and am blown away by the sound. joekids |

Eagels Hotel California is decent on DVD-A.
It's a dead format so you won't find much out there. |

Amazon has a good selection.
I like classic rock and smooth jazz and ther are very few titles.
Classics and eclectic have more.

I haven't listened to it yet (it's in the mail) but I just ordered the Beatle's Love Soundtrack in DVD Audio format.
It's supposed to be great, can't wait to check it out.
As some other people said, there are some reviews and lists online. Listmania on Amazon has some suggestions.

I also have Frampton Comes Alive and think it sounds great.
The Blue Man Group has the best 5.1 mix of the DVD-A's I own. Elton John's Goodby Yellow Brick Road is great also. |

Here are a few of the better DVD-A discs I've listened to--alas, not all are currently available at standard retail:
Beatles - Love - superlative mix, excellent surround sound, great presence
David Crosby - If I Could ONly Remember My Name - Don't let the first minute or so of the first track fool you--it's in two-channel; it opens up to 5.1 about halfway through, and the transition is remarkable - a great mix of a great album
Carly Simon - No Secrets - remarkable presence, wonderful sound, good 5.1
Carlos Nakai - Fourth World - Won a Grammy, and with good reason; it is a beautiful blend of Native American flute and moody orchestra, like a surreal Southwestern noir soundtrack
Mannheim Steamroller - Celebration - a best-of Christmas disc that offers a remarkable mix of some of their material (the bells and finger-cymbals are so clear you'll swear the musicians are in the back seat)
Goodbye Yellow Break Road - Very clear, very crisp, with remarkable separation
Fleetwood Mac - remarkably clean and crisp
And a few not-so-good...
Santana - Abraxas - it seems like it's reversed--what should be in the front channel is in the rear and vice versa. And the mix somehow makes the music seem a bit lifeless
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds - dull 4.1 mix--no center channel, and not a lot of bass
Queen - A Night at the Opera - Comes across a little bit muddy, like they couldn't find the original tapes
Moody Blues - On the Threshold of a Dream - very muffled and muted, with virtually no center channel presence at all |

| Anyone having any problems with their DVD-A discs even playing? I purchased two discs last fall from CD Universe and neither one would work. But I've also got the ejecting DVD issue, so it's no surprise... :3: |

I've been listening to some DTS CD's and those sound pretty nice as well.
It Won't Be Soon Before Long by Maroon 5
All the Lost Souls by James Blunt
Are a few of the cd's I have. Sure wish XM came across in 5.1 like this. |

| Where did you find a 5.1 DTS recording of the James Blunt? I'd love to pick up a copy for myself! |

| All the Talking Heads' studio albums have been remastered in DVD-A. I got the "Brick" box set with all of them, and they are mind-blowing in the MDX! Whenever I want to show off the ELS system to someone I put on "Remain in Light", or "Speaking in Tongues". Get one of those two discs and you will understand the potential of the format. |

| I had some luck @ DTS.com They have a small varied selection. I found a guy online who is an amazing 5.1 encoded collection but only on tape. I've ask him many times if he came convert to DVD with no response. If he gets blasted with requests maybe he would change his tune. |
