This is my first post on the forum... We just bought a used 2005 MDX and are really pleased with our purchase.

On the way into work this morning I noticed the "Passenger Air Bag OFF" light stayed on intermittently. Is this just a poor connection or do we have an air bag issue?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

If the airbag system detects a light weight object on the passenger seat, it will deactivate the passenger airbag (and illuminate the light), thinking a child is sitting there. So, make sure you don't have a briefcase, computer, groceries, large hand bag, etc sitting on the seat. The weight necessary to turn off the system is anything up to 65lbs (+/- 2 lbs.)

Additionally, the system incorporates a passenger position sensor for the front passenger seat called the "Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS). This sensor will also deactivate the passenger airbag if it detects an object leaning against the door. Anytime the passenger airbag is deactivated, the "Passenger Airbag Off light will also illuminate.

Do you usually have anything on the passenger seat as you drive around?

You got it one... yes, sometimes I set my coat and backpack on the passenger seat. Guess I'll be putting my things on the floor behind me from now on.

THANKS!!

If that's the case, the car did exactly what its supposed to. Its fine to have your briefcase there, plus if you crash, it will be that much cheaper to repair things because the passenger airbag won't have deployed to save your briefcase.
