Hi all,
Don't have my MDX yet (expecting delivery March at MSRP), but am thinking about some accessories to add on. I'll probably add ski racks, probably not the ones by Acura, and am wondering if I should add the running boards or not. I prefer not to add running boards since they decrease ground clearance and make my pants dirty, but it seems they'll come in handy when loading/unloading skiis from the roof rack. I never had ski racks before and being 5'8'', I'm wondering if I'll need the added height or not. Any suggestions? I know, it might to too early to be thinking about this (especially since I'm getting my MDX in spring) but hey, I've got nothing better to do right now.
Plus, what accessories does everyone have?
I'm thinking
1) moon roof visor
2) lower trim
3) splash guard
4) either cargo tray or cover
5) would like to have flare guards, but may be later since I'm kinda tight on the budget right now
6) generic all weather floor mats ($20 at Costco; 4 pcs) |

I can only comment on a few of the options which I bought and are self-installable (I am handy with a screw driver and scissors).
I bought splash guards ($33) from http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/hondac...e/business.html (best prices by far). It took me about 20 minutes to install WITHOUT removing the tires (tip: use a "Z" shaped screw driver and pre-screw the 3rd screw in to make a hole).
Cargo cover ($104) and cargo net ($38) are no brainer self-installs.
I got great rubber floor mats from http://www.mats.com. $120 for 3 rows and they are far superior to the Acura brand (they cover the 3rd row and come in a few colors). The 2nd and 3rd rows are made of 2 interconnecting pieces that look like 1 mat but need a little triming with scissors.
From what I read on this site, people are paying about $570 to dealers for the cargo cover, cargo net and splash guards (installed). They cost $175.
I don't know if the the cargo liner allows you to raise the 3rd row without removing it.
I did not get a moon roof visor. I have not noticed a lot of wind or noise from driving with the roof open to justify my buying it. |

IMHO, the running boards are handy when loading/unloading things from the roof rack. i'm 5'5", and still step into the cabin in order to reach all the way to the rack, especially for a mountain bike. i've seen the side steps, and i don't think they blend with the overall look as good as the running boards.
you definitely get used to entering/exiting the vehicle with the running boards. i know many have complained of dirtying their pant legs, but if you're conscious about it, one can avoid that. just something to be mindful of....
as for the accessories, i pretty much have all the useful ones available, except the cargo cover. all items were installed by the dealer, as the one we purchased was essentially their 'show' car when the MDX first hit the market. i really don't need the cargo cover, since the window tinting is sufficient, and i don't carry valuables that need to be concealed.
just take a look at the gallery if you want some ideas.
