| OK, I have searched on the forum and found no conclusive rating/opinion on these. Saw a good TV ad promising 25% better range and superior beam width. Are these any better than the X’s OEM high beams, or just a marginal replacement that may have some longevity issues? |

| I haven't used the Sylvania Silversta Ultra on my X yet, but I currently have them installed on my Civic. In my experience they are a lot brighter than the OEM bulbs, but they don't last as long. I can probably get about 6 to 8 months of use before they burn out versus a few years on OEM bulbs. |

| Given that on the X, they are only used on high beam, I assume they will last considerably longer? |

Alsea,
I used Siverstar and Ultra on my first two MDX, They burned out in about 14-18 months on high beams.
I'm using an eBay product called the Toshiba HIR (HIR, not HID) I found while browsing. It was only sold on ebay at teh time. The light is fantastic in the high beams, good color without blue, and huge photons.
They've been in about 10 months, so I don't know if they will last longer than the Silver stars. But its been a good ride so far. |

Photons? Are you driving the Starship Enterprise?
Sulu, photon torpedoes, full spread! |

I put the Silverstars in the low beam slot on my wife's Cadillac over two years ago. Working fine. Low beams are about all she ever uses.

No. But when you stand in front of the high beams, they pockmark your eyeballs. |

| I found the Toshiba HIR's on E-bay and the site notes they require some trimming. Is this relatively straightforward and do they then fit securily? |

shootist, highcountrymdx,
Thanks for the heads up on the HIR bulbs. I wasn't aware these were out yet. I ordered a pair for the highs today. |

You have to trim a small plastic tab. Very easy. The bulbs are very fat, but they fit in the openings easily. Changing them is no more difficult than changing standard bulbs.
Always wipe the glass of a bulb with alcohol on a soft tissue, and don't let your oily finger tip touch them afterwards. |
