Ok, so I bought my new MDX on Wednesday and I love it!!!!! Thanks to everyone in this forum who have helped me by answering questions... it made my decision easy!

I chose a Black/Bordeaux Technology Package and it's fantastic! Handles superbly on the ice and the interior is absolutely fabulous.....

I was thinking about getting the Acura Remote Start but decided against it when I saw the $800 price tag..... yikes! Any good aftermarket alternatives out there???

Thanks again for all the help guys! Glad to finally be part of the group

:) :) :)

Congrats on the new MDX.

As far as getting an after market Remote Start systems, there are some good one out there but I for one would be more concerned with the installer that can really butcher a job.

Most of the installer out there are paid on performance, the more they install the more they get paid.

Having an after market part installed open the door for warranty interpretation where should you have a problem and they can point the problem to the aftermaket part, you better be prepared for a argument that could result in a very hefty bill ($$$). Also, they will have to install some kind of additional module to bypass the anti-theft mechanism on the MDX which can make the job of thieves easier if it's not done properly.

From my basic understanding of the Acura OEM system, it is designed as a plug in device, No need to cut wires and it is covered under the same warranty as your MDX as long as it is installed by the dealer.

So the question remains, $300 to $400 for an after market remote start system and risk having issues or $800 for a problem free, dealer and manufacturer supported system.

Best regards

:claphead: congrats!!! If you get an aftermarket remote start/alarm system you may have more add on features. A 2-way lcd remote is nice to see whats going on. You know for a fact that its started. Even with a bypass module, you will have an alarm system in place. If an alarm goes off, you can tell what sensor. Just make sure you have it done by an authorized installer for the brand you select. Even if you have Acura install the factory system doesnt mean the mechanic might not screw it up.

What a coincidence--I'm in Edmonton as well, and I just picked up a Sterling Gray Elite on Friday!

Did you go to Southview or West Side?

I'm looking for a starter too. I was thinking of calling Certified on the West end, but I'm tentative because I have a Compustar installed in my VW GTI, and it's been glitchy since day one.

Right now, I'm leaning toward the OEM starter...crappy range and all.

I'm also getting the dealer to switch to winter Pirelli Scorpions, and I'll pick up a set of the sparkle silver 19s off ebay for summer. The wife needs all the traction she can get!!

I'm going to get my girlfriends buddy to install a compustar for $500 CDN. She loves the compustar that he installed on her Accord!

Hey Quill.... I bought mine from Southview because my boss is friends with the owner. (Got a great deal!)

I was browsing the Titan remotes at Certified Radio....they look good, and they promise no slicing and dicing. Plus they are upgradeable to start via texting....which is good for me as I am at the airport a lot, and it would be handy to start the vehicle while leaving the plane.

Do you mean texting from your cellphone? That we would be awesome! I didn't know that starters could do that.....

Yes. The text-receiving modules are still a month or so away, but many of the starters they sell are built with them in mind. It's about a $150 add-on though....

Quill,

When I google Titan Remote Starter all I get is Nissan Titan starters.....

Is Titan the name of the company? I couldn't find it on certified's website....

Apparently it's www.titaninnovations.ca , and fairly new.... and it looks like the site is still being built.... a little unnerving.

Hey there fellow Canucks,

I am looking to have a remote starter installed in my wife's MDX. After reading your posts I was wondering how you made out with your remote starters? Which system did you get and how much was it installed?

I think the factory/dealer option is out because of the lack of range. Any aftermarket info would be helpful.
