I got bored tonight.
The baby went to sleep. My wife went to sleep. The fire was dying in the fireplace and I didn't feel like adding more wood. I wasn't hungry. I wasn't tired.
What to do?
Well, I haven't driven the Benz in a while...
I went outside, figuring that, at the very least, I would back the Benz out of the garage and run the engine for a bit (I leave it in CT these days, so I try to run it at least once every weekend to prevent the battery from dying). At the very most, I would drive it around the reservoir (a nice, twisty road), and give the battery a good charge.
But I didn't feel like backing it out of the garage, nor did I feel like flogging it on the reservoir route.
What to do?
Well, the X is sitting in the driveway... Yeah, that's the ticket.
So I got in, popped the sunroof, turned on the seat heater to "Hi", set the suspension to "Sport", put the gear selector in "M", adjusted the ELS to "11", and set out for points unknown.
That was over an hour ago.
Let me tell you, this car positively sings at 6000 rpm, and it hugs the road like a vehicle half its size. I was on two-lanes, the highway, and everything in between. I'd be more specific, but the nannies on this board would have a conniption fit if I said any more (like that I drove over 100mph, or took 25mph corners at 50mph). What I will say is that the X in its' current guise is one helluva versatile ride. You can pull soccer-mom duty once minute, and carve up the back roads the next and never miss a beat; all in supreme comfort, and surrounded by the latest in safety technology.
The X is alright.

Adam |

Can't wait to get in my X today..........I'm always thinking of places to go, just so I can experience the ride......
This car is such a learning curve, coming from a 2002 MDX, but it's worth it.....
Now, to set the ELS to 11.....
Happy Cruising!! |

I know the feeling. My 01 X is feeling neglected now. I just use it for hauling like an SUV should - recyclables, big cartons, grocery, Home Depot trips - that sort of thing.
Every excuse to drive on the Interstate is a job for...drumroll...the 07 X. The nannies on the board will likely fall out of their chairs if I disclose how fast I've driven it just today.:2: Let's just say the speed governer kicked in....
I did manage to make the X drift some months ago (well, sort of) while negotiating a near right angle turn with a posted speed limit of 10 mph, taking it at nearly 40 mph. The rear end floated left as I made a right turn and I was going sideways for a few milliseconds before regaining control. I didn't brake but powered through and let the SH-AWD do its job. Mind you, this is a road very familiar to me, and no humans or animals were harmed. It was scary but at least I know what the X is capable of. |

I haven't managed to fully plumb the limits of the VSC just yet, but last night did mark the first time that I shifted 100% power to the outside rear wheel in a turn (and was able to quantify it via the MID).
Fun? Hell to the yes.

Adam

| I gotta agree with dj on his statement. I just love driving it and try to hop on the expressways whenever I can since I take mass transit during the week. I even offer the wife to go, dare i say it ? "Shopping" I try to choose the furthest malls so I can drive the X longer. |

I'm surprised you even went that far considering that it probably never goes below 100 degrees out where you are!

It was only a high of 55 at the Superbowl. We are in the desert, we get a big temperature range for being so far south.
My 04 Maxima had a heated steering wheel, I kind of miss that a little |

Heck I drive mine like a sports car most of the time.....I just handed a punk his A$$ when he tried to take me. Should have seen his face....
Best to drive spirited with you have about 3-5 gallons left in the X vs. 17 gallons of fuel.........
With regards to the other thread about "Loud idling" I think it is the "throaty" sound of the 300 hp engine...... |

1. True with a lighter tank (common sense)
2. Drive like a sport car.... sounds like me driving :D
3. Handed a punk's a$$... Should have seen his face... Only difference, I pass him so fast I could never see his face. :2: |

Hey guys,
I'm new to your forum. Currently an 06 Acura TL owner looking for more utility and seriously considering the MDX. Anything I should watch out for when purchasing this vehicle? Honest Pros and Cons, etc would be appreciated.
Cheers |

Thanks. I will use Clamato next time instead of V8 in emergency case.
Anyhow, did mix V8 with Corona, salt, lime, tabasco last night, It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I did however notice a slight sweet taste probably fr the V8 which by far not no where near the real thang. :) |

I'll chime in & give you a complete utmost honest opinion.
1. Black interior a must. Trust me on this one.
2. Don't get any accessories nor exterior/interior protection package ($550) (from the stealer) like I did. Waste of money... can do this yourself with Zaino & Lexol for a fraction of that cost.
3. Sport package seems to be the favorite so give this a test drive.
Had my X for about a year now, & still loving it every day. Nuff said? ;) |

| It makes me nervous when the big SUVs start to take corners like sports cars. Granted, MDX is one of the most sporty SUVs, and SHAWD will keep the car on traction, but, what about the stopping distance? Acura isn't exactly known for its brakes. |

70-0mph = 170ft.

A little blurp in Motor Trend on the X Sport:
Lateral acceleration? Hold on, because the MDX will deliver 0.86 g of grip-that's sport-sedan territory-thanks in part to 55-series Michelins and an active damper system that can be switched from supple comfort to taut sport mode at the press of a button. Braking? Equally impressive, with 60 mph erased in only 121 feet-again, sport-sedan country. For context, a Lexus IS 350 is good for 0.85 g and 60 to 0 in 121 feet.
Impressive numbers.
