Finally we got our MDX with tech & ent. package two days ago. The dealer wasn't able to find one with the color/option combo we wanted before the the 20% sales tax hike started on Jan. 1 but they agreed to pay the increase in tax, which was about $430 if the delivery was after Jan.1. The MDX replaced the wife's Lexus RX330. I would say the interior materials in general are a notch below those in the Lexus. We have put only 50 miles on it so far. Some quick impression:

It drives and handles great for its size and hight. Even without the sports package, it takes corners pretty well. It's very windy this morning here but the X is very stable on highway. I read sometime ago that it takes a long time for the rear view camera to come on after you put in reverse. Mine comes on like in two seconds. They must have fixed that. BTW, when I checked the tire pressure testerday, they were all 41 psi! I guess they didn't adjust them after it was unloaded from the truck.

The X was in the garage all day yesterday. I spent about an hour playing with the settings and stuff (the head lights were on during that time). This mornig I was playing with the settings again, then all the sudden the radio and the GPS screen went out, the battery was dead! I did a jump start and called the dealer. They told me to enter the GPS code to bring back the screen and bring in the X to have the battery checked. They ckecked the battery and said it was fine. They said if I play with the electronic stuff for more than 20 minutes, I should run the engine, otherwise the battery could be drained rather quickly. Lesson learned. Here are few pictures:

Congrats on your new purchase. :7:

Re: They said if I play with the electronic stuff for more than 20 minutes, I should run the engine, otherwise the battery could be drained rather quickly....

That's a big BS. I've played with all my electronic stuffs for well over 30 mins for at least 5-6 times in different days when first brought it home. Battery never fail nor drained nor black out for any reason. Sounds like your X has a hickup.

Nice ride! Personally, I like the black interior with Silver. ;)

Hey, that looks suspiciously like a Toll Brothers community, is it?

Haha, it's a Toll Brother development. Do you know someone living here?

We like lighter interior color better, a bit more cheerful I guess. It was pretty easy to find silver/black but not silver/taupe. That's why it took the dealer a while. My favorite interior color is beige, that's what the wife's Lexus and my bimmer have, very warm and welcoming. I absolutely regret I went with black exterior color for my bimmer, what a pain to keep it looking nice. That's why we chose silver for the MDX. We all have different tastes, that's what makes the world great.

Hey bimmerguy,
Congrats :29:. I thought you already picked it up last Dec but good thing the dealer swallowed the tax increase. Enjoy it.

ps. Man, your place looks so much like my buddy's in NoVA (also a Toll house). :)

I told the dealer I would only buy one before the tax hike or they would have to pay the extra tax, they said no problem. But it took them longer than they thought to locate the one with the color/options we wanted. So they had to pay the $430 increase in sale tax. Anyway, I paid about invoice price, not bad. I didn't even try hard at all to negotiate.

Yeah, those Toll houses look like they are from the same cookie cutter. Yesterday their CEO said last quarters sales were down 20% something. No surprise. Whoever paying what Toll is asking for their new houses are nuts. They are difinitely not worth what they are asking, 30% cheaper? Maybe.

Perfect !:29:
Got same color, same interior (black was too dark, tan was too light), same options. I'm in VA - remember to vote on Feb. 12. Enjoy.

:2: Mine's 3 weeks new, too. I wish I had that color. (I got last 2007 in the house for a great deal, but it's black.) But when I black it out, it will be sinister.

so far the peeps here are nice at this forum.

Black is really nice and classy WHEN it's clean, especially with a big sedan. If you don't mind doing washing often, it's THE choice of color. But for a lazy a$$ like me, I have bought my last dark color car.

I have played with my electronics for more than 20 min at a time and so far no battery drain...but remember to have the ignition at Aux position instead of ON, and make sure your headlights are OFF. welcome aboard!!!!!!!!

Thanks. Yeah, the headlights were on because it was in the garage. I also found out that my daughter left the the second row bun warmer at "Lo", which continues to work even when the engine is not running but the key is in the "II" position. Lesson learned.

I left my hatch open with Both hatch lights on (the hatch door), interior light and all the map lights on for over "15" hrs. When I returned, the car cranked over.

Sounds like your battery was not at full strength.

Yeah. Actually the day after it died the first time, I played with the settings again for about an hour or so, but with the headlights and fan off this time, guess what? it died again! I just gave it a jump start. When it happened the first time, the dealer checked the battery and said it was OK. Maybe I need to drive a more to charge the battery. If that happens again, I may take it to the dealer.

I am ordering a Deltran SuperSmart Battery Tender Plus 12-Volt 1.25 AMP Battery Charger.

Battery was replaced today. So the battery died the second day and the third day after I bought the X on Feb 5. The first time the dealer did some kind of scanning and told me the battery was OK. Today I finally figured out how to read the message on the screen, it said the battery's voltage was not normal and the airbags may not deploy. Took it to the dealer, they said the battery had a bad cell, replaced the battery. Wondering why they didn't do the same test the first time.

Glad to see that it worked out for you.

Because dealers are invariably lazy dumbasses. Seriously.

JustinTyme, please post pics of your blacked out MDX when it's all said and done...(esp if you get the new wheels too)...
I'm also planning on tinting (smoke) the front windows (possibly adding more tint to the backs as well?....and getting new rims...i'll share my AFTER pics as well...(pls. lemme know what % and brand of film you actually end up using for your tint if at all possible...)

Thanks in advance!!

Good work on the price bro - other people have not been able to get invoice.

I think your color combo looks sweet. Are you planning any mods?

Thanks. Invoice price is pretty common in our area now. There must be six or seven dealerships within 40 miles where I live. Competition is good. But I was pleasantly surprised that they were willing to deal so soon after the new MDX was introduced. I paid MSRP for my last MDX in 2002, when there weren't that many choices.

The only mod I may do is to have the bumper inserts painted to match the rest of the body color. I am happy with the rims, I don't need the stepping boards nor the roof racks. Can't really think of anything else. It's the wife's ride. She deosn't really care as long as it moves and doesn't die on the highways.

tint is 20% up front, and added 5% to all back factory tinted glass.
