Clicking Sound When Closing Door - Click HERE for Original Thread

Out-and-About
When closing any door (all windows up, sunroof closed) I hear a clicking/tapping sound from the rear bumper/hatch area right after the door shuts.

The noise goes away if i hold the rear hatch open a crack while closing the door...in this case the driver-side rear door.

I know this is a relatively minor issue, but it interferes with that pleasing ka-chunk door-closing sound that is often present in higher quality automobiles.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any known fixes?

Yes, I hear it as well (to me it sounds like a light "clink clink"). As we have discussed, the MDX is fairly airtight:
Back Hatch Doesn't Always Close

I have always assumed it was the license plate moving b/c the rear hatch is being buffeted by the air pressure caused by closing the other doors - but I have never bothered to check.

I figured maybe it was the license plate thingy too. donsev said it before me.

At first, I assumed it was the license plate as well...

Then, I removed the plate and the plate frame and tried again. Same sound.

I just asked my Acura service department about this issue, and they stated that there is a flap under the vehicle that opens to release air from the cabin. I thought that was a rather strange answer, but perhaps it's true...

I'll be a son-of-a-gun  . If that is indeed true (and it makes perfect sense to me now), that has to top the list of "they thought of everything" (even more than the tranny vent tube that lets the MDX ford a 19" body of water)

I to have searched for the source. I can easily be heard on my MDX when closing the drivers side doors and seems as though it is comming from the area around the gas filler door.

If anyone has insight as to where this secret pressure relief door is I would be interested in knowing, since it seems as though the fix may simply be a little silicone on the seal.

... but we did have a license plate rattle that was relatively easy to adjust.
