HELP!!! My 2002 MDX has started acting weird. The battery was dead when we went out this morning. The power locks don't work, of course, but neither does the manual lock! The key won't even go inside the lock. How can I open my car??

The key should work even with the battery dead - I've personally done this not too long ago. You sure you're using the correct key?

Hi! Thank for your reply!! Yea, I only have one key for the ignition. Well, we actually have two ignition keys and they both don't go into the keyhole! It is weird! ANd there is only one key access into the car. There isn't even key access through the back. Other thoughts?

Did you buy this new or used? It sounds like the outside lock may have been rekeyed? Or maybe a new door installed with a different lock?

Thanks for your reply! We bought it used not quite a year ago. The carfax said no priiors, it had very low mileage and looks very clean. I did leave the rear light on a few weeks ago and the battery ran down, but I was able to get in with the key then. But not now. I was wondering if it may be some anti-theft issue?

How cold is it outside? Your locks may be frozen.

Good thought! It has been up and down; 20 at night mid 40's during the day. It has been much colder this year and wetter!

Take a hairdryer to it for now and try to spray some graphite lube in there once you get it unfrozen (if that is in fact the problem).

If you use a hair dryer, be careful! The heat coming out on some models can be so hot that it will scorch the paint. Use the low setting, and heat the area around the lock slowly.

Are you sure? I've taken heat guns to car paint before with no ill effects.
