Hi
I need some help regarding our 02 MDX.
We are leaving on a trip tomorrow where, by the looks of the weather, we may need to use the all wheel drive. I have never engaged it before and last night couldn't find the manual to show me how to do it.
Could someone tell me how to engage the all wheel drive and any hints about I should drive the car in that mode ???
Thanks much in advance of any help

| It's automatic. You do not need to worry about it. The car will know when to use it and when not to use it. |

| For really bad weather and really slow driving, you can put the car in 1st or 2nd gear and press the VTM-4 switch to "lock" the AWD. That sends increased torque to the rear wheels for a better chance at getting unstuck, but can cause damage if you turn it on while the wheels have traction on pavement (so don't do this unless the ground is covered in several inches of snow). Even up here in Canada the only time I've used that is in unplowed parking lots and driveways. |

The VTM-4 AWD system is a marvel of engineering and electronics. The system is able to sense any wheel slippage before the wheels break loose, and then redistribute torque to wheels that have better grip. You have to do absolutely nothing, except step on the accelerator and drive.
The VTM-4 lock feature is rarely used. It will apply power to all four wheels when you are in 1st or 2nd gear, below 18 mph, and have depressed the button. Use only on snow, ice, or mud. Never on dry pavement.
Your owner's manual has operating principles and techniques you may find interesting. Take a gander at it. |

| to be precise it will send 50% torque to the rear axle only upto 6mph, after that it will gradually reduce it upto 0% by the time it reaches 18mph. |
