Everyone here and all over the internet know this problem but had to add my two cents anyway!
Tranny went out at 104K. Warranty expired 100K. They want me to pay $1000 to fix. (Generous offer but no thanks) As all of you know there have been the same problems with this make model for some time now. My take on it is they are willing to help pay for repairs because they are aware of numerous problems just like mine. There was a class action lawsuit where just about all models (1998 to 2002) were included (transmissions) except the MDX. Hmmm Think they may know a little something we don't? If anyone knows a good lawyer........ |

I once had a problem with a previous Acura TL. I don't remember exactly what the problem was, but it also occured a few thousand miles after the warranty ran out.
The service advisor volunteered to call Acura corporate to get an exception and get the repair covered, and Acura consented.
Might want to ask them to do that.
Good luck. |

| What are your other options? I'm sure a lawyer will run over $1000 plus your car sits until everything gets ironed out. Why not just pay the $1000 (not bad IMHO, especially at over 100K miles) and then sell it? |

| I would recommend that you take their offer and pay the $1k. Just get the 3yr/36K mile warranty if you do. My son's Accord tranny went with 104K miles and they only would pay 20%, which meant he had to pay $2500! They're totally arbitrary on what they settle so getting $1K isn't really a bad deal. Why are you against it? If you keep the car you'll still have to get it fixed, costing you more than $1,000, and if you trade it in or sell it with a bum tranny you'll take an even bigger hit. A lawyer won't even look at you for $1K, not in this area, anyway. Let us know what you decide to do but their even offering to settle for that amount on a vehicle with 104K miles is generous, given their lousy history. |

| Thanks everyone. I will have to pay to get it done this I know (no choice right). Just pissed that this sort of thing happens to people when it is obvious there is a systemic problem with their trannys. |

You made a wise choice!
Having it replaced from Honda and then selling the car is a much better choice than trying to sell the MDX with a bad trans. You are going to get back at least 150% of the $1000 you invested into a replacement trans. |
