I've read everything about the nav issues but I was hoping for some reassurance before I order a new disc. Last fall my nav started taking longer to load up. Occasionally an error message would come p and then it would work. Last month it stopped working totally. The error message reads something to the effect of dosc reading error please see dealer. The disc is spotless. Just in case I used the disc dr doohickey on it to no avail. Before I spend the $ on a new disc, can anyone reassure me that this is simply a need for a new disc or could it be the drive needs to be replaced? If the drive needs to be replaced can it be a newer year than my 04 or it must b the same year? I'm thinking of buying a used one on ebay but I don't want to be out$50-$75 nonrefundable $$. Please wisely advise.....
By the way, we were on a road trip to Tennessee two weeks ago and the system loaded up but would freeze and not track us. It then poped up my friend, the error message. That bastard! |

| I called Alpine today and they told me to send in the dvd player under the passenger seat and they would repair it for $158. I'm going to send it in the next few days. I should have it back in about a week. I hope this is the fix I've been looking for. It beats paying the dealer $4k for a replacement! I'll post once I get it back. I don't know why no one hasn't done this sooner? |

Your unit isn't under warranty anymore? $158 is not too bad though, I hope it resolves your issues!
I know yours isn't a disc related issue, but this post reminded me that we make a copy of our original and use the copy full-time. This way, if we end up with a scratched or wrecked disc, we can just make a new copy and not have to spend the money ordering a new disc. |

| I received my nav dvd player from Alpine today. All is fixed for only $158! I am so happy today! I had almost given hope since the dealer wanted over $4k for a replacement and the cheapest used on ebay was $800. Call Alpine directly and they'll tell you to send in the unit with a check for $158. You'll get it back in about 10 days! I am so elated!!!! No more black screen for me! |
